| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A life dedicated to the service of his nation has |

| 6 | 7 | | drawn to a close with the death of retired U.S. Marine Corps Colonel |

| 7 | 8 | | Robert Carl Johnson on October 31, 2020, at the age of 85; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Bob Johnson was born on June 5, 1935, in |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Vernon and Della Johnson, and he grew up |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | with two siblings, Donald and Marilyn; in 1955, he married the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | former Nancy Nichols, and the couple went on to share a rewarding |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | union that spanned 65 years; he was the proud father of two |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | children, Michael and Catherine, and later in life, he was blessed |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | with three grandsons; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Johnson |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1955 and trained as a pilot; |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | during the Vietnam War, he flew 500 combat missions, including 39 |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | missions launched from aircraft carriers and one in which he was |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | forced to eject from a plane after an engine malfunction; he retired |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | from the marines in June 1983 at the rank of colonel, having logged |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | 5,100 hours of flight time over the course of his career; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Colonel Johnson remained proud of his military |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | service and stayed faithful to his fellow veterans through the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | years, and he played a leading role in the establishment of the Wise |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | County Veterans Memorial Park in Decatur and the Wise County |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Veterans Memorial Museum in Bridgeport; committed to the effort to |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | bring a veterans hospital to Bridgeport, he continued to make phone |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | calls in support of the project from his hospital bed, until the end |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | of his life; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a proud marine, Bob Johnson |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | earned the admiration of all who knew him, and he will forever hold |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Colonel (Ret.) |
