| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |

| 6 | 7 | | a close with the passing of Anne Newberry Bergman of Weatherford on |

| 7 | 8 | | November 4, 2020, at the age of 95; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The former Anne Newberry was born in Weatherford on |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | March 12, 1925, to William and Mary Newberry; she received a |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | bachelor's degree in accounting from Trinity University in 1946, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | and the following year, she married Robert Bergman, whom she had met |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | on a blind date; the couple shared a rewarding marriage that spanned |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | seven decades, and they took great pride in their three children, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Elizabeth, John, and William, and in their 11 grandchildren and 4 |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Passionate about politics, Mrs. Bergman was a |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | delegate to the Republican Party state convention beginning in |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | 1952, and she contributed her time and energy to a number of |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | gubernatorial, congressional, and presidential campaigns; from |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | 1976 to 1977, she served as president of the Texas Federation of |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Republican Women; engaged in her local community as well, she held a |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | city council seat and was a founding member of the Friends of the |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Weatherford Public Library; she attended All Saints' Anglican |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Church, and she played a key role in establishing the church's |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | orphanage in Mexico; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Above all else, Mrs. Bergman cherished time spent |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | with her family, and she especially enjoyed traveling and sailing; |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | she and her husband were also valued members of the Weatherford Wine |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | and Food Society; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, While the passing of Anne Bergman brings great |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | sadness to her loved ones, she leaves behind a legacy that will long |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | be treasured by all those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Anne Newberry |

| 35 | 36 | | Bergman and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: |

| 37 | 38 | | his wife, Nancy, and William Bergman and his wife, Melissa; to her |

| 38 | 39 | | grandchildren, Catherine, Carrie, Drew, Grant, Spencer, Brett, |
