5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Lorelei Hankins of Rocksprings on April 27, 2021, at the |

7 | 8 | | age of 87; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Lorelei Hankins was born to Lowell F. and Sarah |
---|
9 | 10 | | Boutwell Hankins on September 2, 1933; she grew up with her sister, |
---|
10 | 11 | | Louise, on the family's ranch in Edwards County and attended school |
---|
11 | 12 | | in Rocksprings; a skilled horsewoman, she joined the rodeo team |
---|
12 | 13 | | while attending Texas Tech University; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, From an early age, Ms. Hankins learned ranching from |
---|
14 | 15 | | her father and uncles, who ran the prominent horse breeding |
---|
15 | 16 | | operation Hankins Brothers Production Sales; she worked in the |
---|
16 | 17 | | family business for more than three decades, making sales and |
---|
17 | 18 | | transporting horses to breeding farms and trainers throughout the |
---|
18 | 19 | | United States; she later became the owner of the Lorelei Hankins |
---|
19 | 20 | | Ranch, where she continued to breed quarter horses, as well as |
---|
20 | 21 | | Rambouillet sheep, Angora goats, and cattle; her ranch has received |
---|
21 | 22 | | the Heritage Breeder designation from the American Quarter Horse |
---|
22 | 23 | | Association, and in 2013, the organization honored her as a 50-year |
---|
23 | 24 | | Cumulative Breeder; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Active in her community, Ms. Hankins led 4-H clubs |
---|
25 | 26 | | in Crockett and Edwards Counties, and she was a valued member of the |
---|
26 | 27 | | Ozona Woman's League, Ozona United Methodist Church, and First |
---|
27 | 28 | | Baptist Church of Rocksprings; moreover, she was a lifetime member |
---|
28 | 29 | | of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Hankins enjoyed the love |
---|
30 | 31 | | and support of her children, Cliff and Kay, and with the passing |
---|
31 | 32 | | years, she had the pleasure of seeing her family grow to include |
---|
32 | 33 | | four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Lorelei Hankins brings |
---|
34 | 35 | | immeasurable sorrow to her loved ones, she leaves behind a legacy |
---|
35 | 36 | | that will long be treasured by all those who held her dear; now, |
---|
36 | 37 | | therefore, be it |

37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lorelei Hankins and |

39 | 40 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |

40 | 41 | | children, Kay Stewart and her husband, Eddie, and Cliff McMullan; |

41 | 42 | | to her grandchildren, Lana Wagner and her husband, Will, Jake |

42 | 43 | | Stewart and his wife, Lauren, Jess McMullan and his wife, Michelle, |

43 | 44 | | and Luke McMullan; to her great-grandchildren, Patton, Lorelei, and |
