45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Lorelei Hankins of Rocksprings on April 27, 2021, at the
78 age of 87; and
89 WHEREAS, Lorelei Hankins was born to Lowell F. and Sarah
910 Boutwell Hankins on September 2, 1933; she grew up with her sister,
1011 Louise, on the family's ranch in Edwards County and attended school
1112 in Rocksprings; a skilled horsewoman, she joined the rodeo team
1213 while attending Texas Tech University; and
1314 WHEREAS, From an early age, Ms. Hankins learned ranching from
1415 her father and uncles, who ran the prominent horse breeding
1516 operation Hankins Brothers Production Sales; she worked in the
1617 family business for more than three decades, making sales and
1718 transporting horses to breeding farms and trainers throughout the
1819 United States; she later became the owner of the Lorelei Hankins
1920 Ranch, where she continued to breed quarter horses, as well as
2021 Rambouillet sheep, Angora goats, and cattle; her ranch has received
2122 the Heritage Breeder designation from the American Quarter Horse
2223 Association, and in 2013, the organization honored her as a 50-year
2324 Cumulative Breeder; and
2425 WHEREAS, Active in her community, Ms. Hankins led 4-H clubs
2526 in Crockett and Edwards Counties, and she was a valued member of the
2627 Ozona Woman's League, Ozona United Methodist Church, and First
2728 Baptist Church of Rocksprings; moreover, she was a lifetime member
2829 of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association; and
2930 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Hankins enjoyed the love
3031 and support of her children, Cliff and Kay, and with the passing
3132 years, she had the pleasure of seeing her family grow to include
3233 four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and
3334 WHEREAS, While the death of Lorelei Hankins brings
3435 immeasurable sorrow to her loved ones, she leaves behind a legacy
3536 that will long be treasured by all those who held her dear; now,
3637 therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lorelei Hankins and
3940 extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her
4041 children, Kay Stewart and her husband, Eddie, and Cliff McMullan;
4142 to her grandchildren, Lana Wagner and her husband, Will, Jake
4243 Stewart and his wife, Lauren, Jess McMullan and his wife, Michelle,
4344 and Luke McMullan; to her great-grandchildren, Patton, Lorelei, and
4445 Worth Wagner, Mason McMullan, and Jett Stewart; and to her other
4546 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4849 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lorelei
4950 Hankins.
