45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 death of Roy Joe Grogan of Weatherford on March 30, 2020, at the age
78 of 93; and
89 WHEREAS, Roy Joe Grogan was born in Weatherford to Blanche
910 and Clarence Grogan on October 4, 1926, and he grew up with a
1011 brother, Douglas; after graduating from Weatherford High School in
1112 1943, he attended Weatherford College and North Texas Agricultural
1213 College, interrupting his education to serve with the U.S. Navy in
1314 Hawaii; returning to civilian life, he completed his studies at
1415 Weatherford College and earned his law degree at Duke University in
1516 1950; and
1617 WHEREAS, Subsequently recruited by the FBI, Mr. Grogan was
1718 personally commissioned as a special agent by J. Edgar Hoover and
1819 worked for the bureau in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Oakland,
1920 California, for several years before returning to Weatherford; he
2021 enjoyed a long and diverse career in his hometown as a lawyer, a
2122 real estate developer, and the owner and operator of several
2223 manufacturing companies, including Antelope Oil Tool; he also
2324 served for a time as the district attorney of Parker County; and
2425 WHEREAS, A man of strong religious faith, Mr. Grogan was a
2526 lay leader in the Methodist Church for more than four decades,
2627 holding many local and national leadership positions; he was also a
2728 33rd Degree Mason, and he served as president of the United Way and
2829 the Lions Club and as chair of the March of Dimes, the Parker and
2930 Palo Pinto District of the Boy Scouts of America, and the Parker
3031 County Crime Commission; as head of Civic Development, Inc., he
3132 oversaw the establishment of the Doss Heritage and Cultural Center;
3233 he was named Weatherford's Citizen of the Year in 1992, and he
3334 received the Paragon Medallion from Weatherford College in 1995 and
3435 the Carlos Hartnett Award in 2000; and
3536 WHEREAS, Mr. Grogan married Jeanne Meredith in 1951, and the
3637 couple were devoted to one another for 69 years, until his passing;
3738 he was the proud father of three children, Georganne, Jeaneane, and
3839 Jay, and he was delighted to welcome into his family eight
3940 grandchildren, Tyler, Garrett, Meredith, Blas, Bryan, Reed, Trent,
4041 and William, and seven great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Brock, Truly,
4142 Tipper, Boone, Blas, and Riley; an energetic man with a restless
4243 spirit, he loved taking his children on vacations to Europe in the
4344 1960s and 1970s, and he treated each of his grandchildren to a trip
4445 anywhere in the world on their 12th birthday; after retirement, he
4546 and his wife traveled the globe for months at a time, visiting Asia,
4647 Africa, South America, and China; and
4748 WHEREAS, A loving family man and a proud son of Weatherford,
4849 Roy Joe Grogan possessed a generosity of spirit that expressed
4950 itself in myriad ways, and he enriched the lives of countless people
5051 with his warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be it
5152 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
5253 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Roy Joe Grogan and
5354 extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and friends; and, be it
5455 further
5556 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5657 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5758 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roy Joe
5859 Grogan.
