5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Jerry |

6 | 7 | | David Johnston, who passed away on October 22, 2020, at the age of |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Fred and Winnie Johnston, Jerry Johnston |
---|
9 | 10 | | was born in Munday on February 11, 1940, and grew up with two |
---|
10 | 11 | | siblings, F. A. and Barbara; he graduated from Hardin-Simmons |
---|
11 | 12 | | University and began his teaching career in the town of Old Glory; |
---|
12 | 13 | | later, he taught science and coached numerous sports in O'Brien, |
---|
13 | 14 | | and he also taught wood shop and mechanics to special education |
---|
14 | 15 | | students through the Knox City-O'Brien Consortium; after |
---|
15 | 16 | | completing his master's degree in education at Tarleton State |
---|
16 | 17 | | University, he joined the Millsap Independent School District as a |
---|
17 | 18 | | high school principal; in addition, he taught physics and |
---|
18 | 19 | | trigonometry and coached basketball; he found an ideal professional |
---|
19 | 20 | | home in the district and formed many lasting bonds with colleagues |
---|
20 | 21 | | and students alike; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Johnston married the light of his life, Janice |
---|
22 | 23 | | Johnston, in December 1959, and they became the parents of a son, |
---|
23 | 24 | | Shane, who predeceased him, and two daughters, Kerrie and Sundee; |
---|
24 | 25 | | through the years, their treasured family grew to include two |
---|
25 | 26 | | granddaughters, Jessica and Skye, and five great-grandchildren, |
---|
26 | 27 | | Kadee, Kaylee, Katch, Kelbi, and Kopper; Mr. Johnston retired to |

27 | 28 | | Possum Kingdom Lake in 1992 to spend his days fishing, and he loved |
---|
28 | 29 | | to tell stories about his adventures, which also included deer |
---|
29 | 30 | | hunting, playing 42 with his buddies, and taking to the dance floor; |

30 | 31 | | a talented bladesmith, he collected and restored vintage firearms, |
---|
31 | 32 | | and he could build practically anything; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Although Jerry Johnston will be deeply missed, he |
---|
33 | 34 | | has left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they |
---|
34 | 35 | | will forever treasure; now, therefore, be it |

35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jerry David Johnston |

37 | 38 | | and extend sincere sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it further |

38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
