45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Jerry
67 David Johnston, who passed away on October 22, 2020, at the age of
78 80; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Fred and Winnie Johnston, Jerry Johnston
910 was born in Munday on February 11, 1940, and grew up with two
1011 siblings, F. A. and Barbara; he graduated from Hardin-Simmons
1112 University and began his teaching career in the town of Old Glory;
1213 later, he taught science and coached numerous sports in O'Brien,
1314 and he also taught wood shop and mechanics to special education
1415 students through the Knox City-O'Brien Consortium; after
1516 completing his master's degree in education at Tarleton State
1617 University, he joined the Millsap Independent School District as a
1718 high school principal; in addition, he taught physics and
1819 trigonometry and coached basketball; he found an ideal professional
1920 home in the district and formed many lasting bonds with colleagues
2021 and students alike; and
2122 WHEREAS, Mr. Johnston married the light of his life, Janice
2223 Johnston, in December 1959, and they became the parents of a son,
2324 Shane, who predeceased him, and two daughters, Kerrie and Sundee;
2425 through the years, their treasured family grew to include two
2526 granddaughters, Jessica and Skye, and five great-grandchildren,
2627 Kadee, Kaylee, Katch, Kelbi, and Kopper; Mr. Johnston retired to
2728 Possum Kingdom Lake in 1992 to spend his days fishing, and he loved
2829 to tell stories about his adventures, which also included deer
2930 hunting, playing 42 with his buddies, and taking to the dance floor;
3031 a talented bladesmith, he collected and restored vintage firearms,
3132 and he could build practically anything; and
3233 WHEREAS, Although Jerry Johnston will be deeply missed, he
3334 has left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they
3435 will forever treasure; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jerry David Johnston
3738 and extend sincere sympathy to his loved ones; and, be it further
3839 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3940 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4041 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jerry
4142 Johnston.
