5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada, Nepal's ambassador to the |

6 | 7 | | United States, is visiting Irving from May 14 to 15, 2021, at the |

7 | 8 | | invitation of the Himalayan Democratic Club of Irving; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, On February 6, 2021, Ambassador Khatiwada arrived in |

9 | 10 | | Washington, D.C., to take up his new post; he has served his |
---|
10 | 11 | | government in a number of important roles over the years, including |
---|
11 | 12 | | special economic advisor to the prime minister, minister for |
---|
12 | 13 | | finance, and, simultaneously, spokesperson for the government and |
---|
13 | 14 | | minister for information and communications; in addition, he is a |
---|
14 | 15 | | former member of the Nepalese National Assembly, and he served |
---|
15 | 16 | | twice as vice chair of the National Planning Commission; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ambassador Khatiwada has extensive experience in |
---|
17 | 18 | | economics and finance; from 2006 to 2009, he was a senior economist |
---|
18 | 19 | | at the regional center of the United Nations Development Programme |
---|
19 | 20 | | for Asia and the Pacific, and during his career in the banking |
---|
20 | 21 | | industry, he rose to become governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, the |
---|
21 | 22 | | central bank of Nepal; he holds a doctorate in monetary economics |
---|
22 | 23 | | from the University of Delhi's Delhi School of Economics, as well as |
---|
23 | 24 | | master's degrees in both economics and public administration from |
---|
24 | 25 | | Tribhuvan University; and |

25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Among his many accolades, Ambassador Khatiwada has |

26 | 27 | | received such national awards as the Suprabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu, |
---|
27 | 28 | | Sukirtimaya Rastra Deep, and Prasiddha Prabal Jana Sewa Shree, |
---|
28 | 29 | | conferred by the president of Nepal for his outstanding public |

29 | 30 | | service in various capacities; and |

30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Ambassador Khatiwada has greatly distinguished |

31 | 32 | | himself at the highest levels through his ability and expertise, |

32 | 33 | | and it is indeed a pleasure to welcome him to the Lone Star State; |
