| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Tolar High School band has been invited by the |

| 6 | 7 | | mayor of Honolulu, Hawaii, to represent the State of Texas at |

| 7 | 8 | | remembrance day ceremonies on the 80th anniversary of Pearl Harbor |

| 8 | 9 | | on December 7, 2021; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, On that day in 1941, the Japanese military launched |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | a devastating surprise attack on the United States Pacific Fleet at |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Pearl Harbor, sinking or damaging eight battleships and killing |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | more than 2,400 Americans; called "a date which will live in infamy" |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | by President Franklin Roosevelt, the attack resulted in the entry |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | of the United States into World War II, which ended with the |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | surrender of Japan in September 1945; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The 80th anniversary of this historic event is being |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | marked on National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day and will include a |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | series of commemorative concerts from December 4 through 8, 2021; |

| 19 | 20 | | the only high school band from Texas to be invited, the Tolar |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Rattler Band will take part in an official military wreath-laying |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | ceremony at the USS Arizona Memorial and an official flag-folding |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | ceremony at the USS Missouri Memorial; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In recent years, the Tolar High band has achieved |

| 24 | 25 | | notable success; in 2015 and 2017, the band advanced to the finals |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | of the University Interscholastic League 2A State Marching Contest, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | and it made the area round of marching in 2019; the band has also |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | earned sweepstakes awards each year from 2015 to 2019, and many of |

| 28 | 29 | | its members have made the area round of all-region and received |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | superior ratings as solo performers or as part of ensembles; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The Tolar High School band's invitation to perform |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | at the 80th anniversary commemoration of Pearl Harbor represents a |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | considerable achievement by these skilled and dedicated young |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | musicians, and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing their |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | participation in this milestone event; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby commend the Tolar High School band on its |

| 37 | 38 | | invitation to participate in the Pearl Harbor 80th anniversary |

| 38 | 39 | | commemoration ceremonies and extend to its members sincere best |

| 39 | 40 | | wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
