No. 1164 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Brynn Brown has achieved great distinction as a member of the girls' track and cross country teams at Guyer High School in Denton, and she closed out her career as a Lady Wildcat with an exceptional performance at the 2021 University Interscholastic League Track & Field State Meet; and WHEREAS, Joining the other top high school competitors in Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 8, Ms. Brown clinched two gold medals in 6A events; in the 3,200 meters, she broke her own state meet record, clocking in at 9 minutes, 58.77 seconds, to best the second-place finisher by nearly 11 seconds; then, in her final high school race, she won the 1,600 meters in 4:41.29, a time that is believed to be the fastest in the nation this year in girls' high school competition; and WHEREAS, Earlier in her senior year, Ms. Brown swept the district, regional, and state crowns in cross country; she closed out her tenure at Guyer with a total of five state titles in the two sports, and she won every one of her UIL 3,200-meter races during her last three years of high school; further, she set multiple records with the Lady Wildcats, and her time of 15:56.89 at the 2021 Texas Distance Festival set the all-time state standard for girls in the 5,000 meters; and WHEREAS, Among her many accolades, Ms. Brown was honored as the 2020-2021 Gatorade Texas Girls Cross Country Player of the Year and the 2019-2020 Gatorade Texas Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year; a top college recruit, she has signed a letter of intent to compete for the University of North Carolina; and WHEREAS, One of the most dominant distance runners in Texas high school history, Brynn Brown is a source of great pride for her school and community, and she is poised for further success as she looks ahead to her college athletic career; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Brynn Brown on her outstanding accomplishments as a member of the girls' track and cross country teams at Guyer High School and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Brown as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
