| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Lamar High School received a 2021 Landmark Award |

| 7 | 8 | | to celebrate the completion of the school's innovative new building |

| 8 | 9 | | and extensive renovations to its original campus; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Landmark Awards recognize outstanding real |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | estate projects that make a significant impact on the Houston |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | landscape and help sculpt the look, feel, and image of the city; |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Lamar High School was honored in the education category, and it was |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | judged on its innovative interiors, use of land, and visual plan, as |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | well as for being environmentally friendly; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Funded by the Houston Independent School District's |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | 2012 bond program, the $122 million Lamar High redesign features a |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | new four-story building that houses a gym, natatorium, band hall, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | black box theater, and banquet hall; the addition of a five-story |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | parking garage created space for a full-size track, two tennis |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | courts, and football, baseball, and softball fields; moreover, the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | main building of the original campus was renovated to preserve its |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | architecturally significant art deco design, and the updated |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | facility includes a childcare wing, welcome center, and ROTC and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Career and Technical Education classrooms; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Lamar High is an International Baccalaureate school |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | that provides diverse groups of students with a rigorous |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | educational program and a broad range of extracurricular |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | activities; the school's new building is organized into "academic |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | neighborhoods" that will allow for the instructional model to shift |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | to a more interdisciplinary and project-based approach, helping to |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | foster a learning environment that can be tailored to meet |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | individual needs; and |

| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Lamar High School is dedicated to preparing area |

| 34 | 35 | | youth for the challenges and opportunities that await them in a |

| 35 | 36 | | rapidly changing world, and the new campus enhancements reflect the |

| 36 | 37 | | community's enduring commitment to the school and its vital |

| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Lamar High School on its receipt of |
