| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, An initiative of the Michael and Susan Dell |

| 8 | 9 | | Foundation, the Dell Scholars Program was founded to provide |

| 9 | 10 | | low-income, first-generation college students with mentoring and |

| 10 | 11 | | financial support to ensure they attain bachelor's degrees; each |

| 11 | 12 | | year, 500 Dell Scholarships are awarded to students who participate |

| 12 | 13 | | in college readiness programs and advanced coursework while |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | overcoming various personal challenges related to their families, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | schools, or communities; in addition to an annual $20,000 award to |

| 15 | 16 | | lessen loans and debt, the program provides a laptop, tutoring, and |

| 16 | 17 | | a Scholars Resource Network to help students deal with stress, |

| 17 | 18 | | managing child care, and life circumstances; 80 percent of Dell |

| 18 | 19 | | Scholars graduate within six years, four times the national rate |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A most deserving recipient, Karen Mira Lopez has |
