| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Vista Hills Elementary |

| 6 | 6 | | School principal Judith Calderon has worked tirelessly to build a |

| 7 | 7 | | solid educational foundation for students in the El Paso community; |

| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Calderon has spent her entire career with the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Ysleta Independent School District, where she began her tenure in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1999 as a middle-school science and English teacher and went on to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | serve as a counselor and assistant principal; in 2016, she was named |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | principal at Vista Hills, the school she attended as a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | kindergartner; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Under the direction of Ms. Calderon, Vista Hills is |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | one of 26 Texas public schools to be nominated for a 2021 National |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Blue Ribbon School award, one of the most prestigious accolades an |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | elementary or secondary school in the U.S. can receive; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | furthermore, the campus has earned recognition on the Texas Honor |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Roll and has been named a top five West Texas Consistent Gold Ribbon |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Elementary School; a dedicated advocate, Ms. Calderon has been |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | active with groups that support minority students; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In 2020, this esteemed administrator was accepted to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | a doctoral program at The University of Texas at Austin; she holds |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | bachelor's and master's degrees from The University of Texas at El |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Paso, and she studied abroad in Russia, researching education |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | programs; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Vista Hills Elementary and Ysleta ISD have benefited |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | immeasurably from Judith Calderon's leadership, professionalism, |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and commitment to the success and well-being of all students, and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | she may indeed take great pride in her many achievements; now, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby honor Judith Calderon for her exceptional |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | contributions to education in the El Paso community and extend to |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
