45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The service club Mission BE A Resource of Sugar Land
67 has demonstrated a strong commitment to helping children in need;
78 and
89 WHEREAS, BEAR was founded in 2020 by students in the Fort Bend
910 Independent School District concerned about children in foster
1011 care; with family roots in India, members who visited that country
1112 had gained a special understanding of child poverty, and as they
1213 observed it closer to home, they wanted to improve the lives of
1314 local children who did not share their own advantages; and
1415 WHEREAS, While taking appropriate precautions in the midst of
1516 the COVID-19 pandemic, BEAR members have provided valuable
1617 assistance to Rainbow Rooms, where Child Protective Services
1718 workers can go to pick up items for children who have suffered abuse
1819 and neglect; members have purchased holiday gifts for foster
1920 children, donated supplies, and participated in such fundraising
2021 events as the Sugar Land Turkey Trot and Fort Bend KIA 30K;
2122 moreover, they have helped sort books, make meals, and prepare
2223 snack bags for Lunches of Love; and
2324 WHEREAS, BEAR members have worked in coalition with FBISD
2425 Shared Dreams, which offers short-term assistance to students in
2526 the district; they won a Hershey Heartwarming Young Heroes Grant
2627 from Youth Service America for their Global Youth Service Day
2728 school supply drive on April 24, 2021, which received further
2829 support from local businesses and nonprofits; in addition, members
2930 commemorated Child Abuse Prevention Month by decorating the grounds
3031 at Alcorn Oaks Pool with blue pinwheels from the Fort Bend County
3132 Sheriff's Office; finding even more ways to be of service, they made
3233 Valentine's Day cards for Meals on Wheels clients, and they have
3334 volunteered at food banks; and
3435 WHEREAS, Members of BEAR include Maya and Arjun Govindaraj,
3536 Lakshanya and Ved Solipuram, Ronit Maganti, Aarini Mehta, Arisha
3637 and Ishaal Merchant, Advaith Govind, and Sriram Susarla; and
3738 WHEREAS, Through their compassion, leadership, and
3839 dedication, the members of Mission BE A Resource have made a
3940 positive difference in the lives of many fellow Texans, and they
4041 have set an inspiring example of civic engagement; now, therefore,
4142 be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby honor Mission BE A Resource for its service to
4445 the community and extend to the members sincere best wishes for
4546 continued success in their important endeavors; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4849 House of Representatives.
