| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |

| 6 | 7 | | memories of Andrew George Khoury of Longview, who died on |

| 7 | 8 | | August 24, 2019, at the age of 50; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Texan, Andy Khoury was born in |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Longview on May 20, 1969, to Dorothy and Alvin Khoury, and he grew |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | up with a brother, Samuel; after graduating from Longview High |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | School in 1987, he earned his bachelor's degree cum laude from |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Southern Methodist University in 1991, and he went on to earn his |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | law degree from Baylor University in 1994; admitted to the bar that |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | same year, he was sworn in by his father, Judge Alvin Khoury; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, After clerking for the firms of Jones, Jones & Curry |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | in Marshall and Brown McCarroll & Oaks Hartline in Longview during |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | and immediately after law school, Mr. Khoury began his legal career |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | at the firm of Nichols & Nichols in Longview, where he demonstrated |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | his expertise in state and federal litigation, including personal |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | injury cases as well as complex commercial, insurance, and oil and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | gas cases; he opened the Khoury Law Firm in 2012, focusing on |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | business litigation, wills, trusts, and probate cases; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A leader in his profession, Mr. Khoury served the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Gregg County Bar Association as president, and he helped organize |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | an effort to bring the Supreme Court of Texas to conduct oral |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | arguments in Longview; he was a member of the State Bar of Texas and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | served on its Judiciary Relations Committee, and he was also a |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | member of the Northeast Texas Bar Association, the Eastern District |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | of Texas Bar Association, and the Phi Delta Phi International Legal |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | Honor Society-Hemphill Inn; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Khoury gave back to his beloved hometown through |

| 32 | 33 | | his service with the Longview ISD Foundation, as vice chair of the |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | City of Longview Historic Preservation Commission, and as a judge |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | on the Longview Teen Court; he was a Paul Harris Fellow in the |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | Rotary Club of Longview, and he was active with the CHRISTUS Good |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | Shepherd Foundation, the Greater Longview United Way, and the |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | Longview Chamber of Commerce; he was also an active member of the |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | alumni associations of SMU and Baylor Law; and |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Khoury delighted in |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | traveling with his family to Florida and Maine, and he was a |
|---|
| 41 | 42 | | passionate supporter of the Longview Lobo and SMU football teams; |
|---|
| 42 | 43 | | in addition, he was devoted to his two dogs, Leo and Lucy; and |

| 43 | 44 | | WHEREAS, A widely respected attorney and a proud son of |
|---|
| 44 | 45 | | Longview, Andy Khoury lived a life that was rich in personal and |
|---|
| 45 | 46 | | professional achievement, and he has left behind a record of |
|---|
| 46 | 47 | | service that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, |
|---|
| 47 | 48 | | therefore, be it |

| 48 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 49 | 50 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Andrew George |
|---|
| 50 | 51 | | Khoury and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many |
|---|
| 51 | 52 | | friends; and, be it further |
|---|
| 52 | 53 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
