5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Endeavors, a faith-based nonprofit headquartered in |

6 | 7 | | San Antonio, has made a meaningful difference in the lives of |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Founded as San Antonio Urban Ministries by |
---|
9 | 10 | | inner-city churches in 1969, Endeavors has grown dramatically |
---|
10 | 11 | | through the years and adopted its present name in 2018; the agency |
---|
11 | 12 | | delivers an array of services to children, families, veterans, |
---|
12 | 13 | | survivors of natural disasters, and people struggling with mental |
---|
13 | 14 | | illness or other significant disabilities; it additionally |
---|
14 | 15 | | partners and coordinates with government agencies and local and |
---|
15 | 16 | | national organizations to increase its ability to meet the needs of |
---|
16 | 17 | | vulnerable residents; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Endeavors has served nearly 30,000 clients in Texas, |
---|
18 | 19 | | Florida, North Carolina, and Puerto Rico; its programs address such |
---|
19 | 20 | | issues as homelessness, unemployment, and child abuse, and it |
---|
20 | 21 | | offers families counseling, crisis intervention, and life skills |
---|
21 | 22 | | and vocational training, among other initiatives; key programs |
---|
22 | 23 | | include Safe Services, which furnishes crime victims with free |
---|
23 | 24 | | professional counseling and case management, Operation Parent |
---|
24 | 25 | | Strong, which holds group and individual parenting classes for |
---|
25 | 26 | | military families, and the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic, |
---|
26 | 27 | | which provides integrated mental health care to veterans and their |
---|
27 | 28 | | families; moreover, Veteran Supportive Services offers |
---|
28 | 29 | | homelessness prevention and rapid rehousing, and in 2021, the |
---|
29 | 30 | | agency opened the Veteran Wellness Center in San Antonio, a |
---|
30 | 31 | | first-of-its-kind, comprehensive care clinic that addresses all |
---|
31 | 32 | | aspects of health; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, During the COVID-19 pandemic, Endeavors was able to |
---|
33 | 34 | | adapt to the unprecedented situation by continuing 98 percent of |
---|
34 | 35 | | its operations remotely; the agency partnered with other support |
---|
35 | 36 | | organizations to establish two emergency centers in El Paso to |
---|
36 | 37 | | serve as points of entry for a network of area shelters; in |
---|
37 | 38 | | addition, Endeavors secured a more than 50 percent increase in |
---|
38 | 39 | | funding for COVID-impacted veterans and provided housing |
---|
39 | 40 | | assistance to 200 clients in Houston who became homeless as a result |
---|
40 | 41 | | of the pandemic; and |
---|
41 | 42 | | WHEREAS, For more than a half century, Endeavors has |
---|
42 | 43 | | empowered countless people to improve their lives and build a |
---|
43 | 44 | | brighter future for their families, and in so doing, it has helped |
---|
44 | 45 | | to strengthen the entire community; now, therefore, be it |
---|
45 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
46 | 47 | | Legislature hereby commend Endeavors on its exceptional service to |
---|
47 | 48 | | vulnerable people in crisis and extend to all those associated with |
---|
48 | 49 | | this noteworthy organization sincere best wishes for continued |
---|
49 | 50 | | success; and, be it further |
