45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Endeavors, a faith-based nonprofit headquartered in
67 San Antonio, has made a meaningful difference in the lives of
78 countless people in need; and
89 WHEREAS, Founded as San Antonio Urban Ministries by
910 inner-city churches in 1969, Endeavors has grown dramatically
1011 through the years and adopted its present name in 2018; the agency
1112 delivers an array of services to children, families, veterans,
1213 survivors of natural disasters, and people struggling with mental
1314 illness or other significant disabilities; it additionally
1415 partners and coordinates with government agencies and local and
1516 national organizations to increase its ability to meet the needs of
1617 vulnerable residents; and
1718 WHEREAS, Endeavors has served nearly 30,000 clients in Texas,
1819 Florida, North Carolina, and Puerto Rico; its programs address such
1920 issues as homelessness, unemployment, and child abuse, and it
2021 offers families counseling, crisis intervention, and life skills
2122 and vocational training, among other initiatives; key programs
2223 include Safe Services, which furnishes crime victims with free
2324 professional counseling and case management, Operation Parent
2425 Strong, which holds group and individual parenting classes for
2526 military families, and the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic,
2627 which provides integrated mental health care to veterans and their
2728 families; moreover, Veteran Supportive Services offers
2829 homelessness prevention and rapid rehousing, and in 2021, the
2930 agency opened the Veteran Wellness Center in San Antonio, a
3031 first-of-its-kind, comprehensive care clinic that addresses all
3132 aspects of health; and
3233 WHEREAS, During the COVID-19 pandemic, Endeavors was able to
3334 adapt to the unprecedented situation by continuing 98 percent of
3435 its operations remotely; the agency partnered with other support
3536 organizations to establish two emergency centers in El Paso to
3637 serve as points of entry for a network of area shelters; in
3738 addition, Endeavors secured a more than 50 percent increase in
3839 funding for COVID-impacted veterans and provided housing
3940 assistance to 200 clients in Houston who became homeless as a result
4041 of the pandemic; and
4142 WHEREAS, For more than a half century, Endeavors has
4243 empowered countless people to improve their lives and build a
4344 brighter future for their families, and in so doing, it has helped
4445 to strengthen the entire community; now, therefore, be it
4546 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4647 Legislature hereby commend Endeavors on its exceptional service to
4748 vulnerable people in crisis and extend to all those associated with
4849 this noteworthy organization sincere best wishes for continued
4950 success; and, be it further
5051 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5152 prepared for Endeavors as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5253 House of Representatives.
