| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Wheeler County lost an esteemed |

| 6 | 7 | | civic leader with the death of Judge Jerry Dan Hefley on May 6, |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | 2021, at the age of 77; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Dan and Willie Hefley, Jerry Hefley was |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | born in Wheeler on November 6, 1943, and he grew up with the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | companionship of six siblings; and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In 1985, Mr. Hefley began working as the Wheeler |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | County tax assessor-collector, and 14 years later, he became the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | county judge; highly dedicated to his community, he was an avid |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | supporter of the county fire departments and emergency medical |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | services; in addition, he was involved in Wheeler County 4-H, and he |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | was instrumental in establishing the 4-H Shooting Sports Complex in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Shamrock; a man of deep faith, he was a valued congregant of the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Church of Christ-Wheeler Area; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Judge Hefley benefited from |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | the love and support of his wife, Carolyn, with whom he shared a |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | rewarding marriage that spanned more than four and a half decades; |

| 22 | 23 | | he took great pride in their sons, Justin and Kendall, and with the |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | passing years, he had the pleasure of welcoming into his family |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | three grandchildren, Olivia, Jaylee, and Avery; in his leisure |

| 25 | 26 | | time, he liked fishing and cheering on local sports teams, and he |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | also enjoyed cattle ranching; and |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Judge Jerry Hefley was a devoted family man and a |

| 28 | 29 | | significant asset to his community, and his commitment to his loved |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | ones and to Wheeler County will be remembered and admired for years |

| 30 | 31 | | to come; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Jerry |

| 33 | 34 | | Dan Hefley and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: |
