45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The citizens of Wheeler County lost an esteemed
67 civic leader with the death of Judge Jerry Dan Hefley on May 6,
78 2021, at the age of 77; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Dan and Willie Hefley, Jerry Hefley was
910 born in Wheeler on November 6, 1943, and he grew up with the
1011 companionship of six siblings; and
1112 WHEREAS, In 1985, Mr. Hefley began working as the Wheeler
1213 County tax assessor-collector, and 14 years later, he became the
1314 county judge; highly dedicated to his community, he was an avid
1415 supporter of the county fire departments and emergency medical
1516 services; in addition, he was involved in Wheeler County 4-H, and he
1617 was instrumental in establishing the 4-H Shooting Sports Complex in
1718 Shamrock; a man of deep faith, he was a valued congregant of the
1819 Church of Christ-Wheeler Area; and
1920 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Judge Hefley benefited from
2021 the love and support of his wife, Carolyn, with whom he shared a
2122 rewarding marriage that spanned more than four and a half decades;
2223 he took great pride in their sons, Justin and Kendall, and with the
2324 passing years, he had the pleasure of welcoming into his family
2425 three grandchildren, Olivia, Jaylee, and Avery; in his leisure
2526 time, he liked fishing and cheering on local sports teams, and he
2627 also enjoyed cattle ranching; and
2728 WHEREAS, Judge Jerry Hefley was a devoted family man and a
2829 significant asset to his community, and his commitment to his loved
2930 ones and to Wheeler County will be remembered and admired for years
3031 to come; now, therefore, be it
3132 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3233 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Jerry
3334 Dan Hefley and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
3435 to his wife, Carolyn Hefley; to his sons, Justin Hefley and his
3536 wife, Mireille, and Kendall Hefley and his wife, Christian; to his
3637 sister, Mary Helen Kelley; to his grandchildren, Olivia, Jaylee,
3738 and Avery Hefley; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
3839 further
3940 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4041 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4142 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jerry
4243 Hefley.
