| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Gabriela Garcia was named the 2018-2019 Teacher of |

| 6 | 7 | | the Year at Gus Garcia Middle School in San Antonio; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A strong education is vital for young Texans to |

| 8 | 9 | | become successful and productive adults, and those individuals who |

| 9 | 10 | | dedicate their careers to teaching are helping to ensure that the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | future of the Lone Star State rests in capable hands; and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Garcia teaches science and has worked with the |

| 12 | 13 | | Edgewood Independent School District for 15 years; a native of |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Brownsville, she attended Our Lady of the Lake University, where |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | she earned bachelor's degrees in chemistry and biology and a |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | master's degree in curriculum and instruction, with an emphasis in |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | math and science; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Gabriela Garcia exemplifies the passion, |

| 18 | 19 | | determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | best teachers, and she has set a standard of excellence to which all |

| 20 | 21 | | in her profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it |

| 21 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 22 | 23 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Gabriela Garcia on her selection as |

| 23 | 24 | | the 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year for Gus Garcia Middle School and |
