| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

| 6 | 7 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends |

| 7 | 8 | | of George Elias Salom of El Paso, who passed away on May 8, 2021, at |

| 8 | 9 | | the age of 90; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, George Salom was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, on |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | January 4, 1931, to Hanna and Nacima Salom, and he grew up in Ciudad |

| 11 | 12 | | Juárez with four siblings, Ameila, Martha, Mike, and Tony; he moved |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | to El Paso with his family in 1946, and following the death of his |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | father two years later, he devoted his life to work and caring for |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | his loved ones; he served on active duty with the U.S. Army from |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | 1955 to 1957 and then with the U.S. Army Reserve until 1961; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to the betterment of El Paso, Mr. Salom |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | embarked on a successful career there, building and establishing a |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | number of businesses through the years, including El Pacifico, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Inc., El Atlántico, Texas Fabrics & Foam, Salom Investments, Paso |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | del Norte Broadcasting (KINT-TV), and the Surety Savings |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Association; a founding member of the El Paso Central Business |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Association and the Downtown Management District, he earned a |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | reputation for his keen intellect and entrepreneurial skill, and he |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | created numerous partnerships and ventures with relatives and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | friends; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Salom was blessed with the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | love and support of his wife, María Esther Salom, with whom he |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | shared a rewarding marriage that spanned more than six and a half |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | decades, and he took great pride in his children, George and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | Josephine, and his grandson, Alexander; he treasured time spent |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | with his loved ones, and he treated everyone with respect, leading |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | by example through word and deed; he was a lifelong member of |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church; and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Admired for his integrity, wisdom, and impeccable |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | work ethic, George Salom lived a caring and purposeful life, and he |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | will forever be a source of inspiration to those who were fortunate |

| 37 | 38 | | enough to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of George Elias Salom |

| 40 | 41 | | and extend deepest condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be |
