5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Dr. Ennis Holmes of |

6 | 7 | | Mexia were deeply saddened by his passing on July 17, 2020, at the |

7 | 8 | | age of 82; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Houston on April 10, 1938, Ennis Holmes was |
---|
9 | 10 | | the son of Ennis R. Holmes and Hester B. Robertson Askew, and he |
---|
10 | 11 | | grew up with the companionship of his four siblings, Frances, |
---|
11 | 12 | | Tommy, Larry, and Johnny; following his graduation from Mexia High |
---|
12 | 13 | | school, he answered his nation's call to duty and joined the United |
---|
13 | 14 | | States Navy; he later attended Texas A&M University, where he |
---|
14 | 15 | | earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Holmes began his career as a veterinarian when |
---|
16 | 17 | | he opened Holmes Animal Clinic in his stepfather's barn in |
---|
17 | 18 | | Coolidge; he went on to move his practice to Mexia, where he |
---|
18 | 19 | | continued to provide care until his retirement in March 2019; in |
---|
19 | 20 | | addition, he served as director of the Texas Animal Health |
---|
20 | 21 | | Commission in Beeville and taught microbiology at Navarro College; |
---|
21 | 22 | | he was also a cattle rancher, and he enjoyed playing golf in his |
---|
22 | 23 | | leisure time; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Active in his community, Dr. Holmes was a member of |
---|
24 | 25 | | the Limestone County Appraisal Review Board, and he served as |
---|
25 | 26 | | president of the Mexia Ex-Students Association; a man of faith, he |
---|
26 | 27 | | was a valued congregant of the First United Methodist Church, where |
---|
27 | 28 | | he was an usher; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Holmes married Charlse Ann Moody, and they |
---|
29 | 30 | | became the proud parents of a daughter, Holly; with the passing |
---|
30 | 31 | | years, Dr. Holmes had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to |
---|
31 | 32 | | include two grandsons, Christian and Cameron, and a |
---|
32 | 33 | | great-granddaughter, Blakely; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Ennis Holmes lived a rich and purposeful life, |
---|
34 | 35 | | and he will forever be remembered with deep affection by all who |
---|
35 | 36 | | held him close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Ennis Holmes and |

38 | 39 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |

39 | 40 | | daughter, Holly Kuehn, and her husband, Heath; to his grandsons, |

40 | 41 | | Christian Ellison and Cameron Ellison and his wife, Shelby; to his |

41 | 42 | | great-granddaughter, Blakely Ellison; to his brother, Johnny |

42 | 43 | | Holmes, and his wife, Charlotte; to his brother-in-law, Allen |
