45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Drusilla Knight-Villarreal of Corpus Christi, an
67 esteemed educator and friend to many, passed away on January 21,
78 2020, at the age of 68; and
89 WHEREAS, The daughter of Margaret and Drew Harrison, the
910 former Drusilla Harrison was born on July 25, 1951; she completed
1011 both her bachelor's and master's degrees at Texas A&M
1112 University-Kingsville; over the course of a 33-year career with the
1213 Corpus Christi Independent School District, she taught in the
1314 special education department of South Park Middle School and then
1415 in the CCISD Homebound Program; she wrote a weekly column on
1516 education for the Flour Bluff Sun and Coastal Bend Sun, and for two
1617 decades, she served on the District-Level Planning and
1718 Decision-Making Committee; in addition, she was vice president of
1819 the Corpus Christi AFT; at the state level, she served on the
1920 Teachers' Professional Practices Commission and the Texas
2021 Continuing Advisory Committee for Special Education; moreover, she
2122 contributed to her community as a board member and advisor for CASA
2223 of Nueces County; and
2324 WHEREAS, Ms. Knight-Villarreal was active in politics from
2425 an early age; she was district committeewoman of the Texas Young
2526 Republicans, and she went on to work with the Nueces County
2627 Republican Women and serve on the boards of both the Texas and
2728 National Federations of Republican Women; she also helped organize
2829 the Nueces County Republican Convention for many years and attended
2930 county, state, and national Republican conventions as a delegate 40
3031 times; and
3132 WHEREAS, Devoted to her family, Ms. Knight-Villarreal shared
3233 a fulfilling marriage with her husband, Homero C. Villarreal, and
3334 the couple enjoyed traveling the world together; she took great
3435 pride in her son, Adam, and her grandchildren, Asher and Erin, as
3536 well as in her stepdaughters, Sandra and Ana Maria, and their
3637 children; and
3738 WHEREAS, Drusilla Knight-Villarreal greatly benefited her
3839 fellow citizens through her professional and civic contributions
3940 alike, and although her loss is keenly felt by those she left
4041 behind, they will forever treasure their memories of her tremendous
4142 warmth, kindness, and compassion; now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Drusilla
4445 Knight-Villarreal and extend sincere sympathy to her loved ones;
4546 and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4849 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Drusilla
4950 Knight-Villarreal.
