5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Drusilla Knight-Villarreal of Corpus Christi, an |

6 | 7 | | esteemed educator and friend to many, passed away on January 21, |

7 | 8 | | 2020, at the age of 68; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Margaret and Drew Harrison, the |
---|
9 | 10 | | former Drusilla Harrison was born on July 25, 1951; she completed |
---|
10 | 11 | | both her bachelor's and master's degrees at Texas A&M |
---|
11 | 12 | | University-Kingsville; over the course of a 33-year career with the |
---|
12 | 13 | | Corpus Christi Independent School District, she taught in the |
---|
13 | 14 | | special education department of South Park Middle School and then |
---|
14 | 15 | | in the CCISD Homebound Program; she wrote a weekly column on |
---|
15 | 16 | | education for the Flour Bluff Sun and Coastal Bend Sun, and for two |
---|
16 | 17 | | decades, she served on the District-Level Planning and |
---|
17 | 18 | | Decision-Making Committee; in addition, she was vice president of |
---|
18 | 19 | | the Corpus Christi AFT; at the state level, she served on the |
---|
19 | 20 | | Teachers' Professional Practices Commission and the Texas |
---|
20 | 21 | | Continuing Advisory Committee for Special Education; moreover, she |
---|
21 | 22 | | contributed to her community as a board member and advisor for CASA |
---|
22 | 23 | | of Nueces County; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Knight-Villarreal was active in politics from |
---|
24 | 25 | | an early age; she was district committeewoman of the Texas Young |
---|
25 | 26 | | Republicans, and she went on to work with the Nueces County |
---|
26 | 27 | | Republican Women and serve on the boards of both the Texas and |
---|
27 | 28 | | National Federations of Republican Women; she also helped organize |
---|
28 | 29 | | the Nueces County Republican Convention for many years and attended |
---|
29 | 30 | | county, state, and national Republican conventions as a delegate 40 |
---|
30 | 31 | | times; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to her family, Ms. Knight-Villarreal shared |
---|
32 | 33 | | a fulfilling marriage with her husband, Homero C. Villarreal, and |
---|
33 | 34 | | the couple enjoyed traveling the world together; she took great |
---|
34 | 35 | | pride in her son, Adam, and her grandchildren, Asher and Erin, as |
---|
35 | 36 | | well as in her stepdaughters, Sandra and Ana Maria, and their |
---|
36 | 37 | | children; and |
---|
37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Drusilla Knight-Villarreal greatly benefited her |
---|
38 | 39 | | fellow citizens through her professional and civic contributions |
---|
39 | 40 | | alike, and although her loss is keenly felt by those she left |
---|
40 | 41 | | behind, they will forever treasure their memories of her tremendous |
---|
41 | 42 | | warmth, kindness, and compassion; now, therefore, be it |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Drusilla |

44 | 45 | | Knight-Villarreal and extend sincere sympathy to her loved ones; |
