| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, On that day, because of a logistical package-loading |

| 9 | 10 | | error, Mr. Carmical was making deliveries to the Pine Tree |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | neighborhood, which is not on his regular route, at about 8 p.m.; as |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | he approached a house to drop off a package, he detected the smell |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | of smoke, and he then noticed flames shooting out of the roof vents |

| 13 | 14 | | of a residence across the street; Mr. Carmical ran to the front |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | door, kicked it in, and entered the home yelling "UPS" in an effort |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | to alert anyone who might be inside; homeowner Ben Slater, who was |

| 16 | 17 | | completely unware that his house was on fire, heard Mr. Carmical, |

| 17 | 18 | | and the two men were able to safely exit; and |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Shortly after, Longview firefighters arrived on the |

| 19 | 20 | | scene and accessed the attic, encountering heavy smoke and flames |

| 20 | 21 | | before they extinguished the blaze; Longview Fire Marshal Kevin May |

| 21 | 22 | | credited Mr. Carmical and his own team for their fast and |

| 22 | 23 | | courageous efforts that prevented anyone from being injured and the |

| 23 | 24 | | home from being completely destroyed; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, By acting quickly and decisively when every second |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | counted, Daniel Carmical helped to prevent a crisis situation from |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | becoming a tragedy, and his efforts indeed merit special |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | recognition; now, therefore, be it |

| 28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 29 | 30 | | Legislature hereby commend Daniel Carmical for helping to rescue a |

| 30 | 31 | | fellow citizen from a burning home and extend to him sincere best |
