| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Houston mayor Sylvester Turner has demonstrated an |

| 7 | 7 | | admirable commitment to serving his fellow Texans during the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | COVID-19 pandemic; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This devoted public official has worked tirelessly |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | to safeguard the health of area residents while ensuring that they |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | continue to receive essential public services; although the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | pandemic has placed immense burdens on the local community, Mayor |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Turner has risen to this unprecedented challenge, and his |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | contributions have been instrumental in helping Houston navigate |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the crisis; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, First elected as mayor in 2015, Sylvester Turner is |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | currently serving his second term in that office; over the past |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | year, he has coordinated the City of Houston COVID-19 Recovery |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Initiative and the community's efforts to contain and limit the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | spread of the virus through widespread testing, contact tracing, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and other measures; he also oversaw the creation of the Health |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Equity Response Task Force to better target populations that have |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | been hardest hit by the pandemic, and he has recruited celebrities |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | to help promote the use of face masks and social distancing through |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the MASK UP! campaign; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Sylvester Turner's decisive leadership has greatly |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | benefited the citizens of Houston during a time of crisis, and he is |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | truly deserving of special recognition for his impressive |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby commend Mayor Sylvester Turner for his service |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | to Houston during the COVID-19 pandemic and extend to him sincere |
