45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
67 of Roland H. Johnson Jr. of Austin, who passed away on January 31,
78 2021, at the age of 92; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Roland Johnson Sr. and Linnie Sanderson
910 Johnson, Roland Johnson was born on July 11, 1928, in Galveston; he
1011 graduated from Ball High School and went on to attend Texas A&M
1112 University and The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a
1213 master's degree in education administration; and
1314 WHEREAS, After teaching at a school in Harper, Mr. Johnson
1415 answered his nation's call to duty and served in the U.S. Army
1516 during the Korean War as well as in the army reserve, retiring at
1617 the rank of lieutenant colonel; in the course of his career as an
1718 educator, he held a range of leadership positions at schools in
1819 Austin; and
1920 WHEREAS, A valued member of his community, Mr. Johnson
2021 participated in a number of notable civic organizations, including
2122 the North Austin Rotary Club and the Texas A&M Association of Former
2223 Students; sustained by a deep faith, he was a longtime member of
2324 First Baptist Church; and
2425 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Johnson enjoyed the love
2526 and support of his wife, Elizabeth, and he took great pride in their
2627 children, Laura, Roland, Ann, Ray, and Randy; with the passing
2728 years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include 14
2829 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and
2930 WHEREAS, Admired for his warmth, integrity, and generosity,
3031 Roland Johnson lived a caring and purposeful life, and he leaves
3132 behind a record of service that his loved ones can remember with
3233 pride; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3435 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Roland H. Johnson
3536 Jr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends;
3637 and, be it further
3738 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3839 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3940 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roland
4041 Johnson.
