| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories |

| 6 | 7 | | of Roland H. Johnson Jr. of Austin, who passed away on January 31, |

| 7 | 8 | | 2021, at the age of 92; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Roland Johnson Sr. and Linnie Sanderson |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Johnson, Roland Johnson was born on July 11, 1928, in Galveston; he |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | graduated from Ball High School and went on to attend Texas A&M |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | University and The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | master's degree in education administration; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, After teaching at a school in Harper, Mr. Johnson |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | answered his nation's call to duty and served in the U.S. Army |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | during the Korean War as well as in the army reserve, retiring at |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | the rank of lieutenant colonel; in the course of his career as an |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | educator, he held a range of leadership positions at schools in |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Austin; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A valued member of his community, Mr. Johnson |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | participated in a number of notable civic organizations, including |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | the North Austin Rotary Club and the Texas A&M Association of Former |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Students; sustained by a deep faith, he was a longtime member of |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | First Baptist Church; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Johnson enjoyed the love |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | and support of his wife, Elizabeth, and he took great pride in their |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | children, Laura, Roland, Ann, Ray, and Randy; with the passing |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include 14 |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Admired for his warmth, integrity, and generosity, |

| 30 | 31 | | Roland Johnson lived a caring and purposeful life, and he leaves |

| 31 | 32 | | behind a record of service that his loved ones can remember with |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | pride; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Roland H. Johnson |
