45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Carol Lovelady retired as director of
67 Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum on May 31, 2020; and
78 WHEREAS, A longtime member of the museum board, Ms. Lovelady
89 served as president from 2010 to 2012; in that role, she spearheaded
910 extensive renovations to Pioneer Town, one of the museum's most
1011 popular exhibitions; she stepped in as interim director in May
1112 2016, and she was appointed permanently the following January; and
1213 WHEREAS, Ms. Lovelady worked tirelessly for the betterment
1314 of the museum, and she raised its profile across the region and
1415 beyond with a signature fundraising event, Unveiled: Rococo, which
1516 celebrated its extensive collection of French antiques; in
1617 addition, she oversaw the integration of the museum with the Center
1718 for the Study of the American West, an academic center at West Texas
1819 A&M University that is headquartered at PPHM; she also strengthened
1920 relationships with the Texas Historical Commission and with
2021 collectors of early Texas art; moreover, her skillful guidance
2122 helped staff members develop their talents; and
2223 WHEREAS, Descended from early settlers of Amarillo,
2324 Ms. Lovelady delighted in visiting the museum as a child; she
2425 earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Baylor University and
2526 a master's degree in advertising from Syracuse University and
2627 embarked on a career in the media and public relations; over the
2728 years, she worked for the Amarillo Globe-News, the former High
2829 Plains Baptist Hospital, and KACV-TV; she has given generously of
2930 her time and expertise to such organizations as the Presbyterian
3031 Home for Children, and in 2014, she was named Globe-News Woman of
3132 the Year; and
3233 WHEREAS, Carol Lovelady greatly benefited Panhandle-Plains
3334 Historical Museum through her vision, leadership, and commitment to
3435 excellence, and her contributions to its success have earned the
3536 lasting appreciation of her fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
3637 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3738 Legislature hereby honor Carol Lovelady for her service as director
3839 of Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum and extend to her sincere
3940 best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for Ms. Lovelady as an expression of high regard by the
4243 Texas House of Representatives.
