5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Carol Lovelady retired as director of |

6 | 7 | | Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum on May 31, 2020; and |

7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A longtime member of the museum board, Ms. Lovelady |
---|
8 | 9 | | served as president from 2010 to 2012; in that role, she spearheaded |
---|
9 | 10 | | extensive renovations to Pioneer Town, one of the museum's most |
---|
10 | 11 | | popular exhibitions; she stepped in as interim director in May |
---|
11 | 12 | | 2016, and she was appointed permanently the following January; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Lovelady worked tirelessly for the betterment |
---|
13 | 14 | | of the museum, and she raised its profile across the region and |
---|
14 | 15 | | beyond with a signature fundraising event, Unveiled: Rococo, which |
---|
15 | 16 | | celebrated its extensive collection of French antiques; in |
---|
16 | 17 | | addition, she oversaw the integration of the museum with the Center |
---|
17 | 18 | | for the Study of the American West, an academic center at West Texas |
---|
18 | 19 | | A&M University that is headquartered at PPHM; she also strengthened |
---|
19 | 20 | | relationships with the Texas Historical Commission and with |
---|
20 | 21 | | collectors of early Texas art; moreover, her skillful guidance |
---|
21 | 22 | | helped staff members develop their talents; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Descended from early settlers of Amarillo, |
---|
23 | 24 | | Ms. Lovelady delighted in visiting the museum as a child; she |
---|
24 | 25 | | earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Baylor University and |
---|
25 | 26 | | a master's degree in advertising from Syracuse University and |
---|
26 | 27 | | embarked on a career in the media and public relations; over the |
---|
27 | 28 | | years, she worked for the Amarillo Globe-News, the former High |
---|
28 | 29 | | Plains Baptist Hospital, and KACV-TV; she has given generously of |
---|
29 | 30 | | her time and expertise to such organizations as the Presbyterian |
---|
30 | 31 | | Home for Children, and in 2014, she was named Globe-News Woman of |
---|
31 | 32 | | the Year; and |

32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Carol Lovelady greatly benefited Panhandle-Plains |

33 | 34 | | Historical Museum through her vision, leadership, and commitment to |
---|
34 | 35 | | excellence, and her contributions to its success have earned the |

35 | 36 | | lasting appreciation of her fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby honor Carol Lovelady for her service as director |

38 | 39 | | of Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum and extend to her sincere |

39 | 40 | | best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
