5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |

6 | 7 | | a close with the passing of Sergeant Lyle Gene Denny of the |

7 | 8 | | Panhandle Police Department on December 7, 2020, at the age of 66; |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born on February 15, 1954, Lyle Denny was the son of |
---|
10 | 11 | | Kenneth and Elsie Denny, and he grew up with the companionship of |
---|
11 | 12 | | two siblings, Linda and Brian; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Sergeant Denny began his career in law enforcement |
---|
13 | 14 | | with the Amarillo Police Department in 1976, and he subsequently |
---|
14 | 15 | | served with the Canyon PD from 1978 to 1991; after working security |
---|
15 | 16 | | for 16 years at Pantex, he became a sergeant with the Panhandle PD; |
---|
16 | 17 | | during his tenure, he spent three years as a school resource officer |
---|
17 | 18 | | with the Panhandle Independent School District, and he took a keen |
---|
18 | 19 | | interest in the students and staff, earning their respect and |
---|
19 | 20 | | affection; at the time of his passing, he held the office of |
---|
20 | 21 | | assistant chief of police; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Active in his community, Sergeant Denny was a past |
---|
22 | 23 | | Master Mason at Panhandle Masonic Lodge and a member of the Blue |
---|
23 | 24 | | Knights, Cal-Tex Riders, and Wild Hogs; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Sergeant Denny enjoyed the |
---|
25 | 26 | | love and support of his wife, Ronda, with whom he shared nearly five |
---|
26 | 27 | | decades, and he took great pride in his daughter, Nikkie; with the |
---|
27 | 28 | | passing years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to |
---|
28 | 29 | | include two granddaughters, Lyndsie and Macie; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a respected law enforcement |
---|
30 | 31 | | professional, Lyle Denny will be deeply missed, and memories of his |
---|
31 | 32 | | warmth and generosity will remain to comfort all those who knew and |

32 | 33 | | loved him; now, therefore, be it |

33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Lyle Gene |
