| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary student received well-deserved |

| 6 | 7 | | recognition when Nohemi Lopez Valdez was named a University of |

| 7 | 8 | | Texas at El Paso Top Ten Senior for 2020; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Presented by the UTEP Alumni Association, the award |

| 9 | 10 | | recognizes the university's most promising graduating or recently |

| 10 | 11 | | graduated seniors; honorees are chosen on the basis of multiple |

| 11 | 12 | | criteria, including academic achievement, involvement, leadership, |

| 12 | 13 | | and service, both in the community and on campus; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Valdez earned a degree in biological sciences, |

| 14 | 15 | | and she plans to open a clinic and perform research while mentoring |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | students and advocating for UTEP scholar programs; among her many |

| 16 | 17 | | achievements, she was a senator-at-large in the Student Government |

| 17 | 18 | | Association, a participant in the Joint Admission Medical Program, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | and president of the Terry Foundation, where she led service |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | initiatives that provided resources for individuals experiencing |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | homelessness and people impacted by a natural disaster; in |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | addition, she studied abroad in Rome, and she has worked as a |

| 22 | 23 | | swimming instructor for children with disabilities; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Through the dedication she has demonstrated in all |

| 24 | 25 | | her endeavors, Nohemi Valdez has built a strong foundation for |

| 25 | 26 | | continued achievement, and she is indeed deserving of this |

| 26 | 27 | | prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |
