| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary student received well-deserved |

| 6 | 7 | | recognition when Carla M. Rodriguez was named a University of Texas |

| 7 | 8 | | at El Paso Top Ten Senior for 2021; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Presented by the UTEP Alumni Association, the award |

| 9 | 10 | | recognizes the university's most promising graduating or recently |

| 10 | 11 | | graduated seniors; honorees are chosen on the basis of multiple |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | criteria, including academic achievement, involvement, leadership, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | and service, both in the community and on campus; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The first woman in her family to obtain an |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | undergraduate degree, Ms. Rodriguez studied organizational and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | corporate communication at UTEP; during her college career, she has |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | distinguished herself by making the dean's list, and she has |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | balanced a challenging academic course load with work and speech |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | and debate competitions, advancing to the semifinals at the Pi |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Kappa Delta National Tournament and the finals at the International |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Forensics Association tournament; she has received scholarships |

| 21 | 22 | | from the Women's Fund of El Paso, the Houston Endowment Fund, and |

| 22 | 23 | | the Public Leadership Education Network; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Rodriguez is a teaching assistant for the |

| 24 | 25 | | Department of Teacher Education, and she has participated in such |

| 25 | 26 | | organizations as the Campus Vote Project, the Creative Writing |

| 26 | 27 | | Society, and the Texas Rising campus chapter; she plans to pursue |

| 27 | 28 | | graduate work in legal studies and international law and then to |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | attend law school; ultimately, she hopes to embark on a career as a |

| 29 | 30 | | communications director and policy advisor in federal government or |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | with a governmental nonprofit; and |

| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through the dedication she has demonstrated in all |

| 32 | 33 | | her endeavors, Carla M. Rodriguez has built a strong foundation for |

| 33 | 34 | | continued achievement, and she is indeed deserving of this |

| 34 | 35 | | prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |
