| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Walnut Hill Elementary School in Dallas was named a |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was created |

| 10 | 11 | | by the U.S. Department of Education in 1982 to recognize campuses |

| 11 | 12 | | that have demonstrated superior academic performance or made |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | notable progress in improving outcomes among economically |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | disadvantaged students; Walnut Hill Elementary was one of only 362 |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | public and private schools nationwide and 27 schools in Texas to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | have earned this impressive honor in 2019; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Selected as an exemplary high-performing school, |

| 17 | 18 | | Walnut Hill Elementary became the first neighborhood elementary |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | school in the Dallas Independent School District to receive two |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Blue Ribbon awards in that category, having previously won in 1999; |

| 20 | 21 | | the campus has also earned a number of other accolades over the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | years, including a National Excellence in Urban Education Award and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | a Distinguished School of Character Award; ably led by principal |

| 23 | 24 | | Phillip Potter, the school serves approximately 400 students in |

| 24 | 25 | | prekindergarten through sixth grade; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Through hard work and perseverance, the teachers and |

| 26 | 27 | | students of Walnut Hill Elementary have established a record of |

| 27 | 28 | | scholastic excellence, and their outstanding efforts have been duly |

| 28 | 29 | | recognized with the Blue Ribbon School award; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Walnut Hill Elementary School on |

| 31 | 32 | | its selection as a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. |
