45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Literacy Achieves demonstrated a steadfast
67 commitment to supporting residents of the Vickery Meadow
78 neighborhood of Dallas in the wake of the devastating winter storm
89 of February 2021; and
910 WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Literacy Achieves has
1011 taught English as a Second Language to local residents; the
1112 organization swiftly changed its focus in February to respond to
1213 the immediate needs of the community during Winter Storm Uri; and
1314 WHEREAS, Literacy Achieves opened its two school buildings as
1415 a warming center, food pantry, and water depot; faith groups and
1516 individuals heard about its efforts and brought food, clothing,
1617 diapers, blankets, and other supplies, while restaurants provided
1718 hot meals; well over 1,000 families sought and received assistance;
1819 and
1920 WHEREAS, The tireless dedication of Literacy Achieves made a
2021 positive difference in the lives of Vickery Meadow residents during
2122 a time of crisis, and the organization set an inspiring example of
2223 civic leadership by adapting to assist others in a new way; now,
2324 therefore, be it
2425 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
2526 Legislature hereby commend Literacy Achieves for its outstanding
2627 contributions to members of the Vickery Meadow community impacted
2728 by Winter Storm Uri and extend to all those associated with the
2829 organization sincere best wishes for continued success in their
2930 important work; and, be it further
3031 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3132 prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
3233 Texas House of Representatives.
