| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Our communities draw immeasurable strength from |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program |

| 10 | 11 | | was established through a partnership between Hill Country |

| 11 | 12 | | Community Ministries and the offices of State Representative John |

| 12 | 13 | | Bucy III and a bipartisan group of local leaders to check in on area |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | senior citizens and people with disabilities and to provide them |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | with food deliveries; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, This noteworthy initiative benefits from many |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | dedicated volunteers, including Mr. Kirkland, who has given |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | generously of his time to help some of the most vulnerable local |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | residents; on March 27, 2020, the program made its first |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | contactless deliveries to those with an urgent need for food; the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | service has since grown to support more than 120 families each week, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | and volunteers have delivered upwards of 40,000 meals; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Through his diligent work with the Neighbor to |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Neighbor Food and Wellness Program, the Honorable Mel Kirkland has |

| 24 | 25 | | demonstrated the power that all citizens have to make a positive |

| 25 | 26 | | difference, and it is indeed fitting that he be recognized for his |

| 26 | 27 | | commitment to being a force for good; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Mel Kirkland for his |
