45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Mary Ann Thompson-Frenk of Dallas celebrated her
67 44th birthday on May 14, 2021, to the great delight of her family
78 and friends; and
89 WHEREAS, The daughter of Debra Rutherford Thompson and John
910 Philp Thompson Jr., the former Mary Ann Thompson was born in Mexico
1011 in 1977 and grew up in Dallas; as a child, she experienced hearing
1112 loss and other health issues, but she learned from her father to
1213 embrace challenges as opportunities to grow stronger and find ways
1314 to make the world a better place; she became an admired artist,
1415 receiving such major accolades as the ARTV Sculptor of the Year
1516 award; in addition, she has served on the advisory board of the
1617 Visual Arts Coalition of Dallas, which represents more than 7,500
1718 artists, and she donated space to the organization; and
1819 WHEREAS, Ms. Thompson-Frenk has been very involved in
1920 philanthropy, human rights, and the environment, as well as the
2021 arts, and she has served on the boards of numerous worthwhile
2122 organizations; with her husband, Joshua Frenk, she founded the
2223 Memnosyne Institute, and she serves as president of the
2324 organization, which encourages positive, peaceful global
2425 collaboration in all areas of knowledge; during the COVID-19
2526 pandemic, Ms. Thompson-Frenk guided the Memnosyne Institute in
2627 addressing the need for KN95 reusable masks for indigenous
2728 communities across the country; the couple also established the
2829 John Philp Thompson Foundation, which supports research on
2930 non-radiation/non-chemotherapy cures for glioblastoma; much in
3031 demand internationally as a speaker, Ms. Thompson-Frenk has
3132 addressed organizations from the United Nations and TEDx to the
3233 Parliament of World Religions; she was the first major investor in
3334 Dallas-based Women That Soar; among numerous accolades, she has
3435 received the 2018 Civic Pioneer Award and the Southern Methodist
3536 University Profiles in Leadership Award; and
3637 WHEREAS, With the passage of another year, Mary Ann
3738 Thompson-Frenk may reflect with pride on her wide-ranging
3839 accomplishments and on the many significant contributions she has
3940 made in behalf of her fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it
4041 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4142 Legislature hereby congratulate Mary Ann Thompson-Frenk on her 44th
4243 birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and,
4344 be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for Ms. Thompson-Frenk as an expression of high regard by
4647 the Texas House of Representatives.
