45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Borger Independent School District and Frank
67 Phillips College have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to
78 area students by offering a dual credit program at Borger High
89 School; and
910 WHEREAS, Through their partnership, FPC and Borger High
1011 provide students with the opportunity to enroll in free dual credit
1112 classes and earn an associate degree as well as a high school
1213 diploma; the first cohort of students in the program graduated in
1314 2017, and since then, four more cohorts have risen to the challenge
1415 of an increased workload to graduate from both schools; and
1516 WHEREAS, In 2021, eight percent of Borger High seniors earned
1617 associate of science degrees through the dual credit program,
1718 surpassing the state average of two percent; the 15 graduates of
1819 Cohort 5 include Pearson Bailey, Cash Conaway, Cameron Counts,
1920 Isabella Diaz, David Espinosa, Camden Hernandez, Kyli Hernandez,
2021 Kloe Holt, Ryan Howes, Aidan Johnston, Hayleigh Martinez, Josue
2122 Miramontes, Kayli Potts, Joseline Lopez Tovar, and Julian Word; and
2223 WHEREAS, These outstanding young Texans have benefited from
2324 the able leadership of superintendent Chance Welch of Borger ISD,
2425 principal Matt Ammerman and associate principal DeDe Conaway of
2526 Borger High, and president Dr. Glendon Forgey and former president
2627 Dr. Jud Hicks of FPC, as well as from the valuable contributions of
2728 the faculty, staff, trustees, and regents of both schools and
2829 Borger ISD; and
2930 WHEREAS, A quality education is critical to the continuing
3031 vitality of our state, and the dual credit program at Borger High
3132 helps students to reach their full potential and to become engaged
3233 and productive members of their community; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3435 Legislature hereby commend the Borger Independent School District
3536 and Frank Phillips College for offering a dual credit program at
3637 Borger High School and extend to all those involved with the
3738 initiative sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3839 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
3940 for Borger ISD, Frank Phillips College, and Borger High School as an
4041 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
