5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Borger Independent School District and Frank |

6 | 7 | | Phillips College have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to |

7 | 8 | | area students by offering a dual credit program at Borger High |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Through their partnership, FPC and Borger High |

10 | 11 | | provide students with the opportunity to enroll in free dual credit |

11 | 12 | | classes and earn an associate degree as well as a high school |

12 | 13 | | diploma; the first cohort of students in the program graduated in |
---|
13 | 14 | | 2017, and since then, four more cohorts have risen to the challenge |

14 | 15 | | of an increased workload to graduate from both schools; and |

15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In 2021, eight percent of Borger High seniors earned |
---|
16 | 17 | | associate of science degrees through the dual credit program, |

17 | 18 | | surpassing the state average of two percent; the 15 graduates of |

18 | 19 | | Cohort 5 include Pearson Bailey, Cash Conaway, Cameron Counts, |

19 | 20 | | Isabella Diaz, David Espinosa, Camden Hernandez, Kyli Hernandez, |

20 | 21 | | Kloe Holt, Ryan Howes, Aidan Johnston, Hayleigh Martinez, Josue |

21 | 22 | | Miramontes, Kayli Potts, Joseline Lopez Tovar, and Julian Word; and |

22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, These outstanding young Texans have benefited from |

23 | 24 | | the able leadership of superintendent Chance Welch of Borger ISD, |

24 | 25 | | principal Matt Ammerman and associate principal DeDe Conaway of |

25 | 26 | | Borger High, and president Dr. Glendon Forgey and former president |

26 | 27 | | Dr. Jud Hicks of FPC, as well as from the valuable contributions of |

27 | 28 | | the faculty, staff, trustees, and regents of both schools and |

29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, A quality education is critical to the continuing |

30 | 31 | | vitality of our state, and the dual credit program at Borger High |

31 | 32 | | helps students to reach their full potential and to become engaged |

32 | 33 | | and productive members of their community; now, therefore, be it |

33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby commend the Borger Independent School District |

35 | 36 | | and Frank Phillips College for offering a dual credit program at |

36 | 37 | | Borger High School and extend to all those involved with the |

37 | 38 | | initiative sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
