10 | 11 | | and wounded more than 1,100 others; it also left 8 battleships, 3 |

11 | 12 | | cruisers, 4 destroyers, and 6 additional vessels sunk or damaged |

12 | 13 | | and 188 U.S. aircraft destroyed; and |

13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Proclaimed a "date which will live in infamy" by |

14 | 15 | | President Franklin D. Roosevelt, December 7, 1941, witnessed one of |

15 | 16 | | the darkest moments in this nation's history, but there soon dawned |

16 | 17 | | an era of extraordinary resilience and strength of character among |
---|
17 | 18 | | the American public; the United States entered the war against |
---|
18 | 19 | | Japan, Germany, and Italy within days and went on to play a crucial |
---|
19 | 20 | | role in the global coalition against the Axis powers; from those |
---|
20 | 21 | | fighting on the front lines to the civilians contributing to the war |
---|
21 | 22 | | effort on the home front, Americans banded together to oppose the |
---|
22 | 23 | | growing threat of tyranny around the world, and their contributions |
---|
23 | 24 | | helped the Allies to emerge victorious in one of the most important |
---|
24 | 25 | | struggles in human history; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The U.S. Congress later designated December 7 of |

26 | 27 | | each year as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, and on that |

27 | 28 | | solemn anniversary, we lower our flags and bow our heads for a |
---|
28 | 29 | | moment of silence; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, When reflecting on the attack on Pearl Harbor, it is |

30 | 31 | | incumbent on our nation to pay tribute to all the lives that were |
---|
31 | 32 | | lost on that fateful day and to honor the courageous men and women |
---|
32 | 33 | | who went forth to ensure that those deaths were not suffered in |

33 | 34 | | vain; now, therefore, be it |

34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby commemorate December 7, 2021, as the 80th |

36 | 37 | | anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. |
