45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
67 memories of Roger Caldwell Bailey, who died on October 31, 2020, at
78 the age of 84; and
89 WHEREAS, Roger Bailey was born in Waco on April 28, 1936, to
910 Charles and Josephine Bailey; after graduating from Waco High
1011 School in 1954, he attended Texas A&M University, where he earned
1112 his bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1958; and
1213 WHEREAS, Mr. Bailey began his long and successful career in
1314 road construction with the Texas Highway Department, and he
1415 traveled the state supervising paving projects; in 1961, he joined
1516 Austin Industries, eventually rising to become vice president, and
1617 in 1972, he moved to Austin to oversee the company's expansion in
1718 Central Texas; during a period of rapid growth, he contributed to
1819 many road projects in the region, including the upper deck of
1920 Interstate 35 through downtown Austin; he retired from Austin
2021 Industries in 1997, after 36 years of service; and
2122 WHEREAS, In 1963, Mr. Bailey wed the former Jo Carter, and he
2223 became the proud father of three children, Rebecca, Robin, and
2324 Roger; he married again in 1990 to Debi Bailey, and he was a loving
2425 stepfather to her children, Misty and Ryan; with the passing years,
2526 Mr. Bailey had the pleasure of welcoming 12 grandchildren into his
2627 family; in retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his wife in
2728 Port Aransas and bay fishing at Port Mansfield; and
2829 WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a respected engineer, Roger
2930 Bailey led a rich and purposeful life, and he will always be
3031 remembered with deep affection by all who were privileged to know
3132 him; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Roger Caldwell
3435 Bailey and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and friends;
3536 and, be it further
3637 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3738 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3839 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roger
3940 Caldwell Bailey.
