| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |

| 6 | 7 | | memories of Roger Caldwell Bailey, who died on October 31, 2020, at |

| 7 | 8 | | the age of 84; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Roger Bailey was born in Waco on April 28, 1936, to |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Charles and Josephine Bailey; after graduating from Waco High |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | School in 1954, he attended Texas A&M University, where he earned |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | his bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1958; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bailey began his long and successful career in |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | road construction with the Texas Highway Department, and he |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | traveled the state supervising paving projects; in 1961, he joined |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Austin Industries, eventually rising to become vice president, and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | in 1972, he moved to Austin to oversee the company's expansion in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Central Texas; during a period of rapid growth, he contributed to |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | many road projects in the region, including the upper deck of |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Interstate 35 through downtown Austin; he retired from Austin |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Industries in 1997, after 36 years of service; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In 1963, Mr. Bailey wed the former Jo Carter, and he |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | became the proud father of three children, Rebecca, Robin, and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Roger; he married again in 1990 to Debi Bailey, and he was a loving |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | stepfather to her children, Misty and Ryan; with the passing years, |

| 25 | 26 | | Mr. Bailey had the pleasure of welcoming 12 grandchildren into his |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | family; in retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his wife in |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Port Aransas and bay fishing at Port Mansfield; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a respected engineer, Roger |

| 29 | 30 | | Bailey led a rich and purposeful life, and he will always be |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | remembered with deep affection by all who were privileged to know |

| 31 | 32 | | him; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Roger Caldwell |

| 34 | 35 | | Bailey and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and friends; |
