| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Each day, countless people are exposed to sexually |

| 7 | 7 | | explicit content through a wide range of media, and these consumers |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | are often unaware of the health risks posed by such material; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Children are encountering pornography before their |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | teens, and this early exposure may lead to low self-esteem and body |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | image disorders and an increased desire to engage in risky sexual |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | behavior; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Besides promoting unhealthy sexual expectations, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the adult entertainment industry produces media that objectify |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | women and children as well as depict rape and abuse; by associating |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | violence with sexual gratification, these materials perpetuate the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | demand for sex trafficking, prostitution, child pornography, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | sexual abuse images; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Pornography has also been linked to such detrimental |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | health effects as brain development complications, emotional and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | medical afflictions, the inability to form and maintain intimate |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | relationships, and sexual addiction; these dangers not only affect |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | people on an individual level but also contribute to the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | degradation of the family unit, frequently leading to marital |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | dissatisfaction and infidelity; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The ubiquity of pornography has resulted in a host |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of societal problems and potentially negative health effects, and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | it is of paramount importance that our leaders tackle this critical |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | public health issue; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature hereby recognize that pornography is a public health |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | hazard; and, be it further |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Texas House of Representatives recognize |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | the need for education, prevention, research, and policy changes to |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | address the harmful influence and consequences of pornography. |
