45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Justin Wade Perez is stepping down as chief of staff
67 in the office of State Representative Celia Israel in 2021, drawing
78 to a close a notable tenure in the state legislature that has
89 spanned eight years and five legislative sessions; and
910 WHEREAS, Mr. Perez first served as a legislative aide in the
1011 office of State Representative Mary Gonzalez during the 83rd
1112 Legislature; he joined Representative Israel's office the
1213 following session, serving as an aide and as director of operations
1314 before being named chief of staff in 2018; and
1415 WHEREAS, Mr. Perez has worked with dozens of members of the
1516 House Democratic Caucus, and in the 86th Legislature he served on
1617 the staff of the first-ever Texas House LGBTQ Caucus; during his
1718 tenure with Representative Israel, he has organized daily floor
1819 briefings, prepared memos and vote recommendations, and served as a
1920 liaison to other offices and officials, and his committed efforts
2021 have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues; and
2122 WHEREAS, Since 2013, Mr. Perez has also served as a political
2223 consultant in more than 50 races, from state house to judge, and in
2324 2020 he served as deputy executive director of the Texas House
2425 Democratic Campaign Committee; he has been a member of the
2526 Fundraising Committee of Con Mi Madre, a DACA clinic volunteer and
2627 application fundraiser, a delegate to the Democratic National
2728 Convention, and a member of the Planned Parenthood community board,
2829 and he has served Travis County as a Democratic Party precinct
2930 chair, elections clerk, and voter registrar; and
3031 WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin,
3132 Mr. Perez holds a bachelor's degree in government and another in
3233 communication studies; he will soon embark on a new chapter,
3334 joining the staff of Future Now; and
3435 WHEREAS, For five legislative sessions, this esteemed public
3536 employee has performed his duties with skill and dedication, and he
3637 may indeed take great pride in his many achievements as he pursues
3738 the challenges and opportunities of a new position; now, therefore,
3839 be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4041 Legislature hereby commend Justin Wade Perez for his service to the
4142 Texas Legislature and extend to him sincere best wishes for
4243 continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
4344 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4445 prepared for Mr. Perez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4546 House of Representatives.
