5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Justin Wade Perez is stepping down as chief of staff |

6 | 7 | | in the office of State Representative Celia Israel in 2021, drawing |

7 | 8 | | to a close a notable tenure in the state legislature that has |
---|
8 | 9 | | spanned eight years and five legislative sessions; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Perez first served as a legislative aide in the |
---|
10 | 11 | | office of State Representative Mary Gonzalez during the 83rd |
---|
11 | 12 | | Legislature; he joined Representative Israel's office the |
---|
12 | 13 | | following session, serving as an aide and as director of operations |
---|
13 | 14 | | before being named chief of staff in 2018; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Perez has worked with dozens of members of the |
---|
15 | 16 | | House Democratic Caucus, and in the 86th Legislature he served on |
---|
16 | 17 | | the staff of the first-ever Texas House LGBTQ Caucus; during his |
---|
17 | 18 | | tenure with Representative Israel, he has organized daily floor |
---|
18 | 19 | | briefings, prepared memos and vote recommendations, and served as a |
---|
19 | 20 | | liaison to other offices and officials, and his committed efforts |
---|
20 | 21 | | have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Since 2013, Mr. Perez has also served as a political |
---|
22 | 23 | | consultant in more than 50 races, from state house to judge, and in |
---|
23 | 24 | | 2020 he served as deputy executive director of the Texas House |
---|
24 | 25 | | Democratic Campaign Committee; he has been a member of the |
---|
25 | 26 | | Fundraising Committee of Con Mi Madre, a DACA clinic volunteer and |
---|
26 | 27 | | application fundraiser, a delegate to the Democratic National |
---|
27 | 28 | | Convention, and a member of the Planned Parenthood community board, |
---|
28 | 29 | | and he has served Travis County as a Democratic Party precinct |
---|
29 | 30 | | chair, elections clerk, and voter registrar; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, |
---|
31 | 32 | | Mr. Perez holds a bachelor's degree in government and another in |
---|
32 | 33 | | communication studies; he will soon embark on a new chapter, |
---|
33 | 34 | | joining the staff of Future Now; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, For five legislative sessions, this esteemed public |
---|
35 | 36 | | employee has performed his duties with skill and dedication, and he |
---|
36 | 37 | | may indeed take great pride in his many achievements as he pursues |

37 | 38 | | the challenges and opportunities of a new position; now, therefore, |

39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby commend Justin Wade Perez for his service to the |
