45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Amarillo College mass media students won 36 awards
67 at the annual convention of the Texas Intercollegiate Press
78 Association on March 26, 2021; and
89 WHEREAS, Judged by working news professionals, the statewide
910 competition assesses mass media content produced by students at
1011 two- and four-year colleges and universities, both public and
1112 private; and
1213 WHEREAS, Amarillo College captured first prize for overall
1314 excellence for its newspaper, The Ranger, in Division 3, and took
1415 home second prize in the overall excellence in magazine category in
1516 the Open Division; individual first prize awards went to Caylee
1617 Hanna in Breaking News, Caylee Hanna and Jessika Fulton in Podcast,
1718 Shawn McCrea in Critical Review and in Static Ad Design, Joey
1819 Pantoja in Editorial and in Op Ed Editorial Design, Daniar Onoz in
1920 Editorial Cartoon, Stormie Sanchez in General Column and in General
2021 News Print, and Lauren Ebben in General News Audio Story; and
2122 WHEREAS, Also receiving individual awards were Jenna Gibson,
2223 Sidney West, Bridget Ulloa, Brittnee Talley, Johnny Lawhon, Kaden
2324 Bryant, Ruth Martinez, CJ Scott, and Emily Reeves; moreover, the
2425 Ranger staff won honorable mention in Headline Writing, Overall
2526 Design Newspaper, and Special Edition Design-Print, and the college
2627 garnered a third-place award and an honorable mention for two of its
2728 newscast audio reports; and
2829 WHEREAS, The outstanding performance by these talented mass
2930 media students is a tribute to their hard work and commitment to
3031 producing high-quality content, and they may indeed reflect with
3132 pride on their noteworthy achievements; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby congratulate Amarillo College mass media
3435 students on winning 36 awards at the 2021 Texas Intercollegiate
3536 Press Association convention and extend to them sincere best wishes
3637 for continued success; and, be it further
3738 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
3839 for the students as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
3940 of Representatives.
