| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of former state representative Robert Lewis Fairchild of |

| 7 | 8 | | Center on December 1, 2019, at the age of 90; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Robert Carl Fairchild and Anna Dagma |

| 9 | 10 | | Lewis Fairchild, Bob Fairchild was born in Beaumont on January 31, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | 1929, and grew up in Chester; he completed both his bachelor's |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | degree in business administration and his law degree at The |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | University of Texas at Austin; in 1953, he co-founded the Center law |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | firm known today as Fairchild, Price, Haley & Smith; he was admitted |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and Fifth Circuit Court of |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Appeals, among other venues; dedicated to his profession, he served |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | as president of the Shelby County Bar Association, and he was a |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | member of the East Texas Chapter of the American Board of Trial |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Advocates and a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation; in 1994, he |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | retired from his practice, and nine years later, he was honored by |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | the State Bar for 50 years of service to the organization; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Fairchild served in the Texas House from 1961 to |

| 22 | 23 | | 1965; during his tenure, he chaired both the General Investigating |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | and Judicial Districts Committees, and he was a member of a number |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | of other committees; he further benefited his fellow citizens as |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | president of the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, and he helped |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | organize Little League baseball in his community; a deacon of First |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Baptist Church since 1979, he taught the Fellowship Class for many |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | years as well; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Fairchild shared a |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | fulfilling marriage with his wife, Patsy; they were the parents of |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | four children, Robert, Jan Ellen, David, and Karla, and they were |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | blessed with six grandchildren, Carrie, RC, Philip, Matt, Britney, |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | and Eric, as well as numerous great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Although Bob Fairchild is deeply missed, he left |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | him dear; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Robert Lewis |

| 39 | 40 | | Fairchild and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, be |
