5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Donald J. Dunlap of Corpus Christi, general manager |

6 | 6 | | and president of KEDT, is marking a half century in broadcasting in |

7 | 7 | | 2022; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A Robstown native, Don Dunlap joined KEDT at its |
---|
9 | 9 | | inception in 1972; he was employed as an engineer, television |
---|
10 | 10 | | production manager, operations manager, and assistant general |
---|
11 | 11 | | manager before taking the helm of the station in 1996; partnering |
---|
12 | 12 | | with the Texas State Aquarium and the Art Museum of South Texas, he |
---|
13 | 13 | | served as executive producer on two nationally distributed public |
---|
14 | 14 | | television series, Wonders Under the Sea and Art Journeys; his |
---|
15 | 15 | | tenure has brought a wealth of local programming, including the |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, his engineering and fundraising acumen enabled the |
---|
20 | 20 | | South Texas Public Broadcasting System to add a second radio tower |
---|
21 | 21 | | in Victoria to deliver high-definition television and digital radio |
---|
22 | 22 | | programming; In 2016, Mr. Dunlap guided the station into a new era |
---|
23 | 23 | | with the relocation of KEDT-TV and KEDT-FM to the $48-million KEDT |
---|
24 | 24 | | Center for Educational Broadcasting at Del Mar College; moreover, |
---|
25 | 25 | | during the COVID-19 pandemic, the station expanded digital services |
---|
26 | 26 | | to the Valley and instituted daily radio health newscasts and |
---|
27 | 27 | | launched PBS Learning Media, a free distance-learning tool for |
---|
28 | 28 | | teachers and students; it collaborated with the Corpus Christi |
---|
29 | 29 | | Independent School District on Operation Stay Connected, providing |
---|
30 | 30 | | basic math and reading instruction for prekindergarten through the |
---|
31 | 31 | | second grade, taught by CCISD teachers; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Dunlap serves on advisory committees for PBS and |
---|
33 | 33 | | the Corporation for Public Broadcasting; he has worked tirelessly |
---|
34 | 34 | | at the local, state, and national levels on the digital conversion |
---|
35 | 35 | | of public television, and he has given generously of his time and |
---|
36 | 36 | | expertise in numerous leadership roles, among them chair of the |
---|
37 | 37 | | National Educational Telecommunications Association and member of |
---|
38 | 38 | | the Del Mar College curriculum advisory board; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Few in broadcasting can claim a career as long and |
---|
40 | 40 | | impactful, and through his outstanding contributions to KEDT and |
---|
41 | 41 | | the communities it serves, Don Dunlap has earned the admiration and |
---|
42 | 42 | | appreciation of countless South Texans; now, therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature hereby honor Donald J. Dunlap for a half century of |
---|
45 | 45 | | service to public broadcasting and extend to him sincere best |
---|
46 | 46 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
48 | 48 | | prepared for Mr. Dunlap as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
---|
49 | 49 | | House of Representatives. |
