45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, On the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists
67 hijacked four civilian airplanes in the skies over the United
78 States; the worst terror attack on the American people in the
89 country's history proceeded to unfold on that horrific day; in a
910 coordinated attack, the hijackers intentionally flew two of the
1011 planes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and a third
1112 into the Pentagon; and
1213 WHEREAS, Learning about the other hijackings, passengers and
1314 crew members on the fourth plane, Flight 93, launched a
1415 counterattack, spurring the hijacker pilot to crash the plane into
1516 a field in Pennsylvania; nearly 3,000 people were killed in the
1617 different locations, the single largest loss of life resulting from
1718 a foreign attack on American soil; and
1819 WHEREAS, While September 11 will forever be remembered as a
1920 day of tragedy and loss, we also remember the selfless
2021 determination of law enforcement officers, firefighters, and other
2122 rescue workers who charged into danger that morning and in the days
2223 after; these first responders continued to show up and search for
2324 survivors and remains in the days and weeks after the attacks, and
2425 many of these heroes lost their lives assisting the people who were
2526 trapped and injured; and
2627 WHEREAS, United in grief, Americans helped in every way
2728 possible; we gave blood and said prayers, with some even
2829 volunteering to help in the rescue and recovery efforts at the World
2930 Trade Center, Pentagon, and Flight 93 sites; we performed acts of
3031 charity and comforted each other, and we stood united as a nation;
3132 and
3233 WHEREAS, In December 2001, the U.S. Congress passed a joint
3334 resolution designating September 11 of each year as Patriot Day; on
3435 that solemn anniversary, we lower our flags and bow our heads for a
3536 moment of silence; this day reminds us that our nation is still
3637 working to effectively combat terrorism that threatens the United
3738 States of America, while remembering the brave souls who have lost
3839 their lives in the process; and
3940 WHEREAS, Patriot Day is a tribute to the innocent and those
4041 who died trying to rescue them; it is also a pledge to carry on their
4142 legacies and remain steadfast in our commitment to our country, our
4243 neighbors, and our character; now, therefore, be it
4344 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4445 Legislature hereby commemorate Patriot Day 2022 on the 21st
4546 anniversary of these attacks and honor with our memories and our
4647 actions those who were injured and those who died in the
4748 September 11 attacks.
