| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |

| 6 | 7 | | meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends |

| 7 | 8 | | of Elsa Laurel Hernandez of Corpus Christi, who passed away on |

| 8 | 9 | | December 9, 2020, at the age of 81; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Alfredo and Petra Laurel, the former |

| 10 | 11 | | Elsa Laurel was born in Oilton on December 29, 1938; she grew up |

| 11 | 12 | | with seven brothers, Nolberto, Eduardo, Alfredo, Policarpio, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Rumaldo, Abelardo, and Rodolfo, and four sisters, Edna, Evelia, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Elvia, and Elia; she picked cotton at a young age and always had a |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | strong work ethic; after living in California and Kansas, she |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | settled in Corpus Christi; she married the love of her life, Edmundo |

| 16 | 17 | | Hernandez, in Mirando, and they became the parents of five |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | children, Rene, Juan, Linda, Ambrosio, and Corina; they also raised |

| 18 | 19 | | one of their 14 grandchildren, Claudia, and their treasured family |

| 19 | 20 | | later grew to include 10 great-grandchildren and 8 |

| 20 | 21 | | great-great-grandchildren; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Hernandez loved preparing meals for her |

| 22 | 23 | | family, and with her culinary knowledge and engaging personality, |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | she eventually embarked on a rewarding career as a restaurant |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | owner; Crystal Palace became very popular, and she later ran the |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Agnes Café for 13 years with great success; in her leisure hours, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | she enjoyed travel and large gatherings, and she especially |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | treasured special moments with the little ones in her family; she |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | was firm yet generous and always stood ready to help a relative or |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | friend in need; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Although Elsa Hernandez is deeply missed, those who |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | held her dear will forever remember the warmth and kindness she |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | brought into their lives; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Elsa Laurel Hernandez |

| 35 | 36 | | and extend sincere condolences to her loved ones; and, be it further |

| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
