5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Texas HIV/AIDS Coalition are |

6 | 7 | | celebrating their sixth biennial HIV Advocacy Day at the State |

7 | 8 | | Capitol on March 29, 2021; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Texas HIV/AIDS Coalition is made up of partner |
---|
9 | 10 | | organizations and advocates from Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, El |
---|
10 | 11 | | Paso, Austin, North Texas, the Rio Grande Valley, and other |
---|
11 | 12 | | communities across the state; HIV Advocacy Day is a statewide |
---|
12 | 13 | | effort to bring Texans living with HIV and those affected by |
---|
13 | 14 | | HIV/AIDS to the Capitol in Austin to help bring visibility to and |
---|
14 | 15 | | educate others about the epidemic; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, According to the Department of State Health |
---|
16 | 17 | | Services, Texas is home to more than 86,000 people living with HIV, |
---|
17 | 18 | | a reality with incalculable public health, social, and financial |
---|
18 | 19 | | consequences; the agency estimates that approximately 4,500 Texans |
---|
19 | 20 | | per year have been diagnosed with HIV throughout the past decade, |
---|
20 | 21 | | which equates to about 12 new diagnoses each day; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Although we have the medical and scientific |
---|
22 | 23 | | knowledge to bring an end to this epidemic, there is still more we |
---|
23 | 24 | | must do to address the social factors that perpetuate the spread of |
---|
24 | 25 | | HIV, and the Texas HIV/AIDS Coalition is deserving of recognition |
---|
25 | 26 | | for its dedicated efforts to support the fight against the disease; |
---|
26 | 27 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby honor the Texas HIV/AIDS Coalition on the |
---|
29 | 30 | | occasion of HIV Advocacy Day at the State Capitol and commend the |
---|
30 | 31 | | organization for its work to improve the lives of individuals with |
---|
31 | 32 | | HIV; and, be it further |
---|
32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
33 | 34 | | prepared for the coalition as an expression of high regard by the |
---|
34 | 35 | | Texas House of Representatives. |
