45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The passing of Gloria Galt of San Antonio on January
67 5, 2021, at the age of 95, has brought great sorrow to her many
78 friends and loved ones; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Ardmore, Oklahoma, on June 25, 1925, Gloria
910 Galt was the daughter of Allierose Breeding and Edward McGee Galt
1011 and the granddaughter of Judge John Galt, the first mayor of
1112 Ardmore; she attended The Hockaday School in Dallas, before moving
1213 with her family to San Antonio and enrolling at Saint Mary's Hall
1314 for her senior year of high school; and
1415 WHEREAS, Ms. Galt continued her studies at The University of
1516 Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, and
1617 she later earned a master of fine arts degree from Parsons School of
1718 Design in New York City; while she was a student at UT, a study
1819 abroad trip to the University of Mexico kindled her interest in
1920 Mexico, and she moved to San Miguel de Allende for a time; there,
2021 she met a like-minded devotee of Mexican culture, Bobby Barclay,
2122 with whom she shared a lifelong companionship; and
2223 WHEREAS, A talented artist, Ms. Galt was asked to design the
2324 "Key to Our City," a 15-inch bronze key to commemorate the 1968
2425 World's Fair in San Antonio; she was a longtime supporter and patron
2526 of the arts, dedicating her time and talents to such institutions as
2627 the Southwest School of Art and the San Antonio Museum of Art and
2728 also contributing to charitable causes through the San Antonio Area
2829 Foundation and other organizations; she was an emeritus member of
2930 The University of Texas at San Antonio Development Board and a
3031 member of The Argyle Board of Governors, the San Antonio Country
3132 Club, Club Giraud, and the Junior League of San Antonio; in
3233 addition, she was a congregant of St. Mark's Episcopal Church; and
3334 WHEREAS, Ms. Galt was blessed with the affection of a large
3435 circle of loved ones that included several generations of nieces
3536 and nephews, and her charm and graciousness endeared her to friends
3637 from around the world; and
3738 WHEREAS, Throughout her years on this earth, Gloria Galt
3839 enriched the lives of countless people, and memories of her warmth,
3940 her generosity, and her inimitable spirit will forever be
4041 treasured; now, therefore, be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4243 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gloria Galt and extend
4344 deepest sympathy to her family and friends; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4647 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gloria
4748 Galt.
