5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The passing of Gloria Galt of San Antonio on January |

6 | 7 | | 5, 2021, at the age of 95, has brought great sorrow to her many |

7 | 8 | | friends and loved ones; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Ardmore, Oklahoma, on June 25, 1925, Gloria |

9 | 10 | | Galt was the daughter of Allierose Breeding and Edward McGee Galt |
---|
10 | 11 | | and the granddaughter of Judge John Galt, the first mayor of |
---|
11 | 12 | | Ardmore; she attended The Hockaday School in Dallas, before moving |
---|
12 | 13 | | with her family to San Antonio and enrolling at Saint Mary's Hall |
---|
13 | 14 | | for her senior year of high school; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Galt continued her studies at The University of |
---|
15 | 16 | | Texas at Austin, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, and |
---|
16 | 17 | | she later earned a master of fine arts degree from Parsons School of |
---|
17 | 18 | | Design in New York City; while she was a student at UT, a study |
---|
18 | 19 | | abroad trip to the University of Mexico kindled her interest in |
---|
19 | 20 | | Mexico, and she moved to San Miguel de Allende for a time; there, |
---|
20 | 21 | | she met a like-minded devotee of Mexican culture, Bobby Barclay, |
---|
21 | 22 | | with whom she shared a lifelong companionship; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A talented artist, Ms. Galt was asked to design the |

23 | 24 | | "Key to Our City," a 15-inch bronze key to commemorate the 1968 |
---|
24 | 25 | | World's Fair in San Antonio; she was a longtime supporter and patron |
---|
25 | 26 | | of the arts, dedicating her time and talents to such institutions as |
---|
26 | 27 | | the Southwest School of Art and the San Antonio Museum of Art and |
---|
27 | 28 | | also contributing to charitable causes through the San Antonio Area |
---|
28 | 29 | | Foundation and other organizations; she was an emeritus member of |
---|
29 | 30 | | The University of Texas at San Antonio Development Board and a |
---|
30 | 31 | | member of The Argyle Board of Governors, the San Antonio Country |
---|
31 | 32 | | Club, Club Giraud, and the Junior League of San Antonio; in |
---|
32 | 33 | | addition, she was a congregant of St. Mark's Episcopal Church; and |

33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Galt was blessed with the affection of a large |
---|
34 | 35 | | circle of loved ones that included several generations of nieces |
---|
35 | 36 | | and nephews, and her charm and graciousness endeared her to friends |
---|
36 | 37 | | from around the world; and |

37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Throughout her years on this earth, Gloria Galt |

38 | 39 | | enriched the lives of countless people, and memories of her warmth, |
---|
39 | 40 | | her generosity, and her inimitable spirit will forever be |

40 | 41 | | treasured; now, therefore, be it |

41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gloria Galt and extend |

43 | 44 | | deepest sympathy to her family and friends; and, be it further |

44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

45 | 46 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |

46 | 47 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gloria |
