5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Jerry Lynn Strawn of Panhandle on September 17, 2020, at |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Norvell and Doris Strawn, Jerry Strawn |
---|
9 | 10 | | was born on June 1, 1941, in Littlefield; he attended Bovina High |
---|
10 | 11 | | School, where he played football and basketball, and went on to |
---|
11 | 12 | | enroll at Texas Tech University; majoring in agronomy, he |
---|
12 | 13 | | distinguished himself as a member of the university's crops judging |
---|
13 | 14 | | team before earning his bachelor's degree in 1965; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Strawn put his education to good use during a |
---|
15 | 16 | | long career in agriculture, which involved farming first in Bovina |
---|
16 | 17 | | and Stratford and later just outside of Panhandle; in addition to |
---|
17 | 18 | | his agricultural endeavors, he became an active member of the |
---|
18 | 19 | | Panhandle community, coaching youth baseball and basketball, |
---|
19 | 20 | | serving on the cemetery association board, and holding various |
---|
20 | 21 | | positions with the Panhandle Country Club; in 1986, he joined the |
---|
21 | 22 | | Carson County commissioners court, and during a remarkable tenure |
---|
22 | 23 | | that spanned 24 years, he also aided local fire departments in |
---|
23 | 24 | | fighting fires and in disaster recovery efforts; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Valuing his family above all else, Mr. Strawn |
---|
25 | 26 | | enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Kay, and he took great |
---|
26 | 27 | | pride in his three children, Mike, Karen, and Charlie; with the |
---|
27 | 28 | | passing years, he had the privilege of welcoming five grandchildren |
---|
28 | 29 | | and a great-grandson into the family; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Although he is deeply missed, Jerry Strawn touched |
---|
30 | 31 | | countless lives during his journey on this earth, and his loved ones |
---|
31 | 32 | | will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |

32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jerry Lynn Strawn |
