45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Jerry Lynn Strawn of Panhandle on September 17, 2020, at
78 the age of 79; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Norvell and Doris Strawn, Jerry Strawn
910 was born on June 1, 1941, in Littlefield; he attended Bovina High
1011 School, where he played football and basketball, and went on to
1112 enroll at Texas Tech University; majoring in agronomy, he
1213 distinguished himself as a member of the university's crops judging
1314 team before earning his bachelor's degree in 1965; and
1415 WHEREAS, Mr. Strawn put his education to good use during a
1516 long career in agriculture, which involved farming first in Bovina
1617 and Stratford and later just outside of Panhandle; in addition to
1718 his agricultural endeavors, he became an active member of the
1819 Panhandle community, coaching youth baseball and basketball,
1920 serving on the cemetery association board, and holding various
2021 positions with the Panhandle Country Club; in 1986, he joined the
2122 Carson County commissioners court, and during a remarkable tenure
2223 that spanned 24 years, he also aided local fire departments in
2324 fighting fires and in disaster recovery efforts; and
2425 WHEREAS, Valuing his family above all else, Mr. Strawn
2526 enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Kay, and he took great
2627 pride in his three children, Mike, Karen, and Charlie; with the
2728 passing years, he had the privilege of welcoming five grandchildren
2829 and a great-grandson into the family; and
2930 WHEREAS, Although he is deeply missed, Jerry Strawn touched
3031 countless lives during his journey on this earth, and his loved ones
3132 will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jerry Lynn Strawn
3435 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
3536 wife, Kay Strawn; to his son, Mike Strawn, and his wife, Joan; to
3637 his daughter, Karen Strawn; to his daughter-in-law, Millie Strawn,
3738 the widow of his son, the late Charlie Lynn Strawn; to his
3839 grandchildren, Melissa Shelley and Dixi, Jerry, Charles, and Caleb
3940 Strawn; to his great-grandson, Patrick Shelley; to his siblings,
4041 Bill Strawn and his wife, Verna, Vicki Richards and her husband,
4142 Leon, and Judy Herring; to his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law,
4243 Dixi and Dick Jones and Roy and Trudy Hartzog; and to his other
4344 relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4647 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jerry
4748 Strawn.
