45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Welborn Boyd Harris Jr. of Lubbock on January 2, 2021, at
78 the age of 93; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Welborn B. Harris Sr. and Callie Lee
910 Cissel Harris, "Dub" Harris was born on December 8, 1927, in
1011 Morganfield, Kentucky, and he grew up with the companionship of two
1112 sisters, Callie and Florence; after graduating from Union County
1213 High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force; a staff sergeant, he
1314 served as a meteorologist with the postwar U.S. occupation forces
1415 in Japan, and he was discharged in 1948; later, he moved to Lubbock
1516 and earned his degree in business administration at Texas Tech
1617 University; and
1718 WHEREAS, Mr. Harris remained in Texas and worked in real
1819 estate until 1957, when he accepted a position with a subsidiary of
1920 the Westinghouse Corporation that transferred him to several
2021 locations throughout the U.S.; he returned to Lubbock in 1964 as the
2122 dealer principal at Hub Motor Company, and he was subsequently
2223 employed by Lubbock Methodist Hospital as vice president of
2324 development; in 1972, he became the first development officer for
2425 the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and he later
2526 became a licensed real estate appraiser, ultimately retiring at the
2627 age of 86; and
2728 WHEREAS, A man of deep faith, Mr. Harris taught Sunday school
2829 at First United Methodist Church of Lubbock, and he was a charter
2930 member of St. Luke's Lubbock, which he helped organize; in
3031 addition, he was a former president of the Lubbock Country Club, and
3132 he was a member of the Greater Southwest Lubbock Rotary Club and the
3233 Texas Tech Alumni Association; and
3334 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Harris enjoyed the love
3435 and support of his wife, Denece, with whom he shared a rewarding
3536 marriage of more than seven decades; he was the devoted father of
3637 two daughters, Kitty and Linn, and he took great pride in his four
3738 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and
3839 WHEREAS, Although Dub Harris will be deeply missed, he has
3940 left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they will
4041 forever treasure; now, therefore, be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4243 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Welborn Boyd
4344 Harris Jr. and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and,
4445 be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dub Harris.
