5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Welborn Boyd Harris Jr. of Lubbock on January 2, 2021, at |

7 | 8 | | the age of 93; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Welborn B. Harris Sr. and Callie Lee |
---|
9 | 10 | | Cissel Harris, "Dub" Harris was born on December 8, 1927, in |
---|
10 | 11 | | Morganfield, Kentucky, and he grew up with the companionship of two |
---|
11 | 12 | | sisters, Callie and Florence; after graduating from Union County |
---|
12 | 13 | | High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force; a staff sergeant, he |
---|
13 | 14 | | served as a meteorologist with the postwar U.S. occupation forces |
---|
14 | 15 | | in Japan, and he was discharged in 1948; later, he moved to Lubbock |
---|
15 | 16 | | and earned his degree in business administration at Texas Tech |
---|
16 | 17 | | University; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Harris remained in Texas and worked in real |
---|
18 | 19 | | estate until 1957, when he accepted a position with a subsidiary of |
---|
19 | 20 | | the Westinghouse Corporation that transferred him to several |
---|
20 | 21 | | locations throughout the U.S.; he returned to Lubbock in 1964 as the |
---|
21 | 22 | | dealer principal at Hub Motor Company, and he was subsequently |
---|
22 | 23 | | employed by Lubbock Methodist Hospital as vice president of |
---|
23 | 24 | | development; in 1972, he became the first development officer for |
---|
24 | 25 | | the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and he later |
---|
25 | 26 | | became a licensed real estate appraiser, ultimately retiring at the |
---|
26 | 27 | | age of 86; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A man of deep faith, Mr. Harris taught Sunday school |
---|
28 | 29 | | at First United Methodist Church of Lubbock, and he was a charter |
---|
29 | 30 | | member of St. Luke's Lubbock, which he helped organize; in |
---|
30 | 31 | | addition, he was a former president of the Lubbock Country Club, and |
---|
31 | 32 | | he was a member of the Greater Southwest Lubbock Rotary Club and the |
---|
32 | 33 | | Texas Tech Alumni Association; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Harris enjoyed the love |
---|
34 | 35 | | and support of his wife, Denece, with whom he shared a rewarding |
---|
35 | 36 | | marriage of more than seven decades; he was the devoted father of |
---|
36 | 37 | | two daughters, Kitty and Linn, and he took great pride in his four |
---|
37 | 38 | | grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and |
---|
38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Although Dub Harris will be deeply missed, he has |
---|
39 | 40 | | left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they will |
---|
40 | 41 | | forever treasure; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Welborn Boyd |
---|
43 | 44 | | Harris Jr. and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, |
---|
44 | 45 | | be it further |

45 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

46 | 47 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |

47 | 48 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dub Harris. |
