45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Our communities draw immeasurable strength from
67 individuals such as Liz Franklin of the Ella Austin Community
78 Center, whose tireless work in behalf of area citizens has
89 contributed significantly to the quality of life in San Antonio;
910 and
1011 WHEREAS, Liz Franklin is a proud military veteran and
1112 community activist, and she currently serves as interim chief
1213 executive officer of the Ella Austin Community Center; founded by
1314 African American community leader Ella Austin in 1897, the center
1415 began as the Ella Austin Orphans Home on Burnet Street; it was
1516 converted to a community center in 1968 and relocated to a former
1617 middle school on Pine Street; today the center is one of the few
1718 agencies offering comprehensive social services on the East Side of
1819 the city, ranging from early childhood development programs to
1920 services for senior citizens; and
2021 WHEREAS, In addition to her contributions to the community
2122 center, Ms. Franklin is the organizer of Dig That Jazz on the Hill,
2223 a free virtual music festival sponsored by the Dig That Jazz
2324 Committee and friends of Dignowity Hill, which honors veterans,
2425 active military personnel, and military service organizations; and
2526 WHEREAS, The city of San Antonio is indeed fortunate to have
2627 such passionate and engaged citizens as Liz Franklin, whose history
2728 of activism and civic involvement is an inspiration to all who know
2829 her; now, therefore, be it
2930 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3031 Legislature hereby commend Liz Franklin for her service as interim
3132 chief executive officer of the Ella Austin Community Center and
3233 extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her
3334 important work; and, be it further
3435 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3536 prepared for Ms. Franklin as an expression of high regard by the
3637 Texas House of Representatives.
