| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Our communities draw immeasurable strength from |

| 7 | 8 | | Center, whose tireless work in behalf of area citizens has |

| 8 | 9 | | contributed significantly to the quality of life in San Antonio; |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Liz Franklin is a proud military veteran and |

| 11 | 12 | | community activist, and she currently serves as interim chief |

| 12 | 13 | | executive officer of the Ella Austin Community Center; founded by |

| 13 | 14 | | African American community leader Ella Austin in 1897, the center |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | began as the Ella Austin Orphans Home on Burnet Street; it was |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | converted to a community center in 1968 and relocated to a former |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | middle school on Pine Street; today the center is one of the few |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | agencies offering comprehensive social services on the East Side of |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | the city, ranging from early childhood development programs to |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | services for senior citizens; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her contributions to the community |

| 21 | 22 | | center, Ms. Franklin is the organizer of Dig That Jazz on the Hill, |

| 22 | 23 | | a free virtual music festival sponsored by the Dig That Jazz |

| 23 | 24 | | Committee and friends of Dignowity Hill, which honors veterans, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | active military personnel, and military service organizations; and |

| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The city of San Antonio is indeed fortunate to have |

| 26 | 27 | | such passionate and engaged citizens as Liz Franklin, whose history |

| 27 | 28 | | of activism and civic involvement is an inspiration to all who know |

| 28 | 29 | | her; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby commend Liz Franklin for her service as interim |

| 32 | 33 | | extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her |
