| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Fly, Lower, and Gather Program is hosting its |

| 6 | 7 | | fifth annual fundraiser on June 12, 2021, in Dallas; and |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, In the fall of 2010, retired U.S. Air Force Master |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | Sergeant Jim Rodriguez of Waxahachie noticed that his daughter's |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | school was not following proper procedure in raising the American |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | flag every day; he contacted the principal and proposed engaging |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | students in this activity in a meaningful way; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez founded the F.L.A.G. Program to help |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | students learn about the history of the American flag, as well as |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the time-honored protocol surrounding its display; the initiative |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | encourages youngsters to take pride in their country and teaches |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | them about their state flag as well; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, the F.L.A.G. Program has been |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | adopted by schools in numerous cities in Texas as well as |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | communities in Arizona, Louisiana, and Oklahoma; students accept |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | the responsibility for the appropriate display and care of flags, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | and participants are recognized by the program sponsors with a |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Citizenship Award; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The 2021 F.L.A.G. fundraiser also serves as a Flag |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Day celebration; commemorating the adoption of the Stars and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Stripes as the official flag of the United States, the observance |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | traces its origins back to May 30, 1916, when President Woodrow |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Wilson issued a proclamation establishing a national Flag Day on |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | June 14; each year, Americans recognize Flag Day by displaying the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Star-Spangled Banner in front of homes and businesses; and |

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The F.L.A.G. Program has instilled in numerous young |

| 31 | 32 | | people a greater appreciation for an important ritual as well as a |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | lasting sense of national pride and patriotism; now, therefore, be |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby honor the Fly, Lower, and Gather Program on the |

| 37 | 38 | | involved in this worthy endeavor sincere best wishes for the |
