45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Fly, Lower, and Gather Program is hosting its
67 fifth annual fundraiser on June 12, 2021, in Dallas; and
78 WHEREAS, In the fall of 2010, retired U.S. Air Force Master
89 Sergeant Jim Rodriguez of Waxahachie noticed that his daughter's
910 school was not following proper procedure in raising the American
1011 flag every day; he contacted the principal and proposed engaging
1112 students in this activity in a meaningful way; and
1213 WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez founded the F.L.A.G. Program to help
1314 students learn about the history of the American flag, as well as
1415 the time-honored protocol surrounding its display; the initiative
1516 encourages youngsters to take pride in their country and teaches
1617 them about their state flag as well; and
1718 WHEREAS, Since its inception, the F.L.A.G. Program has been
1819 adopted by schools in numerous cities in Texas as well as
1920 communities in Arizona, Louisiana, and Oklahoma; students accept
2021 the responsibility for the appropriate display and care of flags,
2122 and participants are recognized by the program sponsors with a
2223 Citizenship Award; and
2324 WHEREAS, The 2021 F.L.A.G. fundraiser also serves as a Flag
2425 Day celebration; commemorating the adoption of the Stars and
2526 Stripes as the official flag of the United States, the observance
2627 traces its origins back to May 30, 1916, when President Woodrow
2728 Wilson issued a proclamation establishing a national Flag Day on
2829 June 14; each year, Americans recognize Flag Day by displaying the
2930 Star-Spangled Banner in front of homes and businesses; and
3031 WHEREAS, The F.L.A.G. Program has instilled in numerous young
3132 people a greater appreciation for an important ritual as well as a
3233 lasting sense of national pride and patriotism; now, therefore, be
3334 it
3435 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3536 Legislature hereby honor the Fly, Lower, and Gather Program on the
3637 occasion of its fifth annual fundraiser and extend to all those
3738 involved in this worthy endeavor sincere best wishes for the
3839 future; and, be it further
3940 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4041 prepared for the program as an expression of high regard by the
4142 Texas House of Representatives.
