5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |

6 | 7 | | memories of Billy Ray Richardson of Angleton, who died on April 16, |

7 | 8 | | 2021, at the age of 87; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Billy Richardson was born in Donie on February 6, |
---|
9 | 10 | | 1934, to Eudene and Eldon Richardson, and he grew up in Freeport |
---|
10 | 11 | | with his brother, James; while still attending high school, he |
---|
11 | 12 | | worked for the Daily Review newspaper as a sports reporter, |
---|
12 | 13 | | photographer, and darkroom developer; he graduated with the last |
---|
13 | 14 | | class of Freeport High School in 1951, and, answering his nation's |
---|
14 | 15 | | call to duty, he served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps at the rank |
---|
15 | 16 | | of corporal during the Korean War; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Richardson resumed |
---|
17 | 18 | | his career in journalism, working as a sports reporter for the Daily |
---|
18 | 19 | | Facts-Review and as news editor for the Angleton Times, helping to |
---|
19 | 20 | | expand the paper into a five-day daily; in 1966, he started his own |
---|
20 | 21 | | business, Times Printers & Stationers in Angleton, and he continued |
---|
21 | 22 | | to cover local sports for the Houston Post, the Houston Chronicle, |
---|
22 | 23 | | and the Brazosport Facts; a leader in his community, he |
---|
23 | 24 | | participated in many civic organizations, and his contributions |
---|
24 | 25 | | were recognized with an award from United Way of Brazoria County and |
---|
25 | 26 | | the Pioneer Award from the Angleton Chamber of Commerce; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Kind and generous, Mr. Richardson enjoyed talking |
---|
27 | 28 | | sports and politics over coffee, and he delighted in traveling and |
---|
28 | 29 | | spending time with his family; he shared a loving 65-year marriage |
---|
29 | 30 | | with his wife, Ottalie, and he took great pride in his three |
---|
30 | 31 | | children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a respected journalist and |
---|
32 | 33 | | businessman, Billy Richardson will be deeply missed, but the |
---|
33 | 34 | | passage of time will never diminish the joy and love that he brought |
---|
34 | 35 | | into the lives of all who knew him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
