45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
67 memories of Billy Ray Richardson of Angleton, who died on April 16,
78 2021, at the age of 87; and
89 WHEREAS, Billy Richardson was born in Donie on February 6,
910 1934, to Eudene and Eldon Richardson, and he grew up in Freeport
1011 with his brother, James; while still attending high school, he
1112 worked for the Daily Review newspaper as a sports reporter,
1213 photographer, and darkroom developer; he graduated with the last
1314 class of Freeport High School in 1951, and, answering his nation's
1415 call to duty, he served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps at the rank
1516 of corporal during the Korean War; and
1617 WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Richardson resumed
1718 his career in journalism, working as a sports reporter for the Daily
1819 Facts-Review and as news editor for the Angleton Times, helping to
1920 expand the paper into a five-day daily; in 1966, he started his own
2021 business, Times Printers & Stationers in Angleton, and he continued
2122 to cover local sports for the Houston Post, the Houston Chronicle,
2223 and the Brazosport Facts; a leader in his community, he
2324 participated in many civic organizations, and his contributions
2425 were recognized with an award from United Way of Brazoria County and
2526 the Pioneer Award from the Angleton Chamber of Commerce; and
2627 WHEREAS, Kind and generous, Mr. Richardson enjoyed talking
2728 sports and politics over coffee, and he delighted in traveling and
2829 spending time with his family; he shared a loving 65-year marriage
2930 with his wife, Ottalie, and he took great pride in his three
3031 children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and
3132 WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a respected journalist and
3233 businessman, Billy Richardson will be deeply missed, but the
3334 passage of time will never diminish the joy and love that he brought
3435 into the lives of all who knew him; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Billy Ray
3738 Richardson and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his
3839 family: to his wife, Ottalie Gormey Richardson; to his children,
3940 Bill Richardson, David Richardson and his wife, Babette, and Kristi
4041 Bentivegna and her husband, James; to his grandchildren, Brittney
4142 Richardson, Brandon Richardson and his wife, Kelly, Davis
4243 Richardson, Morgan Bentivegna, and Aidan Bentivegna; to his
4344 great-grandchildren, Sarah and Hailyn Richardson; and to his other
4445 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Billy
4849 Richardson.
