7 | 8 | | Brandner Archer of San Marcos on July 27, 2020, at the age of 69; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Verle Cudney and Daniel Brandner, |
---|
9 | 10 | | the former Cheryl Brandner was born in Liberal, Kansas, on |
---|
10 | 11 | | September 1, 1950, and grew up in Wichita, Kansas; after completing |
---|
11 | 12 | | her bachelor's degree in early childhood education at the |
---|
12 | 13 | | University of Kansas, she married her high school sweetheart, |
---|
13 | 14 | | Richard L. Archer, in 1971; she went on to earn a master's degree in |
---|
14 | 15 | | special education from The University of Texas at Austin; gifted |
---|
15 | 16 | | and tremendously dedicated, she taught students at various grade |
---|
16 | 17 | | and ability levels at a number of schools in Central Texas; after 17 |
---|
17 | 18 | | years, she retired from her rewarding career to focus completely on |
---|
18 | 19 | | her children, and many of her former students stayed in touch as |
---|
19 | 20 | | they grew into adulthood; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Archer was the mother of a daughter, Katherine, |
---|
21 | 22 | | and a son, James; as James dealt with nonverbal autism, Ms. Archer |
---|
22 | 23 | | used her professional expertise to help him communicate and learn; |
---|
23 | 24 | | she was a generous source of support and information for other area |
---|
24 | 25 | | parents whose children were diagnosed with autism spectrum |
---|
25 | 26 | | disorder, and she vigorously championed the interests of that |
---|
26 | 27 | | community at the State Capitol and elsewhere; committed to public |
---|
27 | 28 | | safety, she was a founding member of the Hays/Comal chapter of Moms |
---|
28 | 29 | | Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, and she served as its |
---|
29 | 30 | | survivor membership lead and volunteered in its Be SMART gun safety |
---|
30 | 31 | | initiative; she was very active in the San Marcos Democratic Party |
---|
31 | 32 | | as well; and |

32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, While Cheryl Archer is deeply missed by her family |
---|
33 | 34 | | and friends, they will forever treasure their memories of her warm |
---|
34 | 35 | | and sunny nature, her marvelous sense of humor, and her immense |
---|
35 | 36 | | kindness; now, therefore, be it |

36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Cheryl Brandner |

38 | 39 | | Archer and extend sincere condolences to her family and many |
