45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
67 memories of Don McAskill of Jourdanton, who died on March 16, 2021,
78 at the age of 82; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Tom and Katie McAskill, Don McAskill was
910 born on May 19, 1938, in San Antonio, and he grew up with five
1011 siblings on a farm near LaCoste; he married his high school
1112 sweetheart, Shirley Bohl, in 1958, and the couple shared more than
1213 six decades together; he was the proud father of four children, Pam,
1314 Mike, Glenn, and the late Gregg McAskill, and he was blessed with
1415 nine grandchildren, Drew, Griffin, Heath, Madison, Peyton, Landon,
1516 Daniela, Carlee, and Darby, as well as five great-grandchildren,
1617 Carson, Amelia, Lucah, Adeline, and Noah; and
1718 WHEREAS, After graduating from LaCoste High School in 1956,
1819 Mr. McAskill served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962; returning to
1920 civilian life, he earned master's degrees from St. Mary's
2021 University, Our Lady of the Lake University, and Southern Methodist
2122 University; he started his career in education as a history
2223 teacher, driving instructor, counselor, and vice principal at
2324 Southwest High School, and he went on to teach at Highlands High
2425 School; he was also the social studies coordinator for the San
2526 Antonio Independent School District and principal of W. W. White
2627 Elementary School; and
2728 WHEREAS, In 1973, Mr. McAskill joined the Jourdanton
2829 Independent School District, where he worked for nearly 40 years,
2930 serving as a driver's education instructor and as principal of
3031 Jourdanton Elementary school before ultimately retiring in 2001;
3132 affectionately known as "Mr. Mac," he was an inspiring and lively
3233 teacher and mentor to several generations of Jourdanton students;
3334 and
3435 WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a beloved educator, Don
3536 McAskill lived a caring and purposeful life, and he leaves behind a
3637 legacy that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore,
3738 be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Don McAskill and
4041 extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be it
4142 further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4445 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Don
4546 McAskill.
