5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |

6 | 7 | | memories of Don McAskill of Jourdanton, who died on March 16, 2021, |

7 | 8 | | at the age of 82; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Tom and Katie McAskill, Don McAskill was |
---|
9 | 10 | | born on May 19, 1938, in San Antonio, and he grew up with five |
---|
10 | 11 | | siblings on a farm near LaCoste; he married his high school |
---|
11 | 12 | | sweetheart, Shirley Bohl, in 1958, and the couple shared more than |
---|
12 | 13 | | six decades together; he was the proud father of four children, Pam, |
---|
13 | 14 | | Mike, Glenn, and the late Gregg McAskill, and he was blessed with |
---|
14 | 15 | | nine grandchildren, Drew, Griffin, Heath, Madison, Peyton, Landon, |
---|
15 | 16 | | Daniela, Carlee, and Darby, as well as five great-grandchildren, |
---|
16 | 17 | | Carson, Amelia, Lucah, Adeline, and Noah; and |

17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from LaCoste High School in 1956, |

18 | 19 | | Mr. McAskill served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962; returning to |

19 | 20 | | civilian life, he earned master's degrees from St. Mary's |
---|
20 | 21 | | University, Our Lady of the Lake University, and Southern Methodist |
---|
21 | 22 | | University; he started his career in education as a history |
---|
22 | 23 | | teacher, driving instructor, counselor, and vice principal at |
---|
23 | 24 | | Southwest High School, and he went on to teach at Highlands High |
---|
24 | 25 | | School; he was also the social studies coordinator for the San |
---|
25 | 26 | | Antonio Independent School District and principal of W. W. White |
---|
26 | 27 | | Elementary School; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In 1973, Mr. McAskill joined the Jourdanton |
---|
28 | 29 | | Independent School District, where he worked for nearly 40 years, |
---|
29 | 30 | | serving as a driver's education instructor and as principal of |
---|
30 | 31 | | Jourdanton Elementary school before ultimately retiring in 2001; |
---|
31 | 32 | | affectionately known as "Mr. Mac," he was an inspiring and lively |
---|
32 | 33 | | teacher and mentor to several generations of Jourdanton students; |
---|
33 | 34 | | and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a beloved educator, Don |
---|
35 | 36 | | McAskill lived a caring and purposeful life, and he leaves behind a |

36 | 37 | | legacy that his loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, |

38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Don McAskill and |

40 | 41 | | extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be it |
