No. 2039 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the passing of John William Hayes on February 28, 2021, at the age of 97; and WHEREAS, John Hayes was born in Petronila on September 7, 1923, to Julius and Maude Ruth Hayes; he grew up with the companionship of four siblings, Nelson, Gladys, Joy, and Dean; and WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Hayes joined the military in December 1942 and became a tail gunner in the 42nd Bombardment Squadron, Seventh Air Force; after completing 40 combat missions, he received an honorable discharge and returned to his family's ranch in Tilden; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Hayes enjoyed the love and support of his wife, the former Genevieve Eva Speckels, with whom he shared a rewarding marriage that spanned more than five and a half decades until her passing; he took great pride in his children, John, Marcy, and the late Kathleen Akers, who preceded her father in death; with the passing years, he had the pleasure of welcoming numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren into his treasured family; and WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his loved ones and his country, John Hayes earned the lasting respect and admiration of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of John William Hayes and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his family: to his son, John Keith Hayes, and his wife, Neda; to his daughter, Marcy Mikolajczyk, and her husband, Emmett; to his grandsons, Jason and Jarrett Akers, and his granddaughters, Michelle McMillan, Jennifer Floyd, Maegan Flannigen, and Jimmie Dell Synatschk; to his nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John Hayes.
